He didn't know why.
But in that moment, Rex thought of the woman in the black mermaid gown he had seen at the entrance.
He hadn't even gotten a clear look at her face.
Yet, for some inexplicable reason, she was the first person who came to mind.
It had been a long time since anyone had dared to provoke him so openly.
Beside him, the men in his entourage were still joking around.
He let out a low chuckle and pressed the bidding remote again, a hint of amusement in his deep, sexy voice. "Five hundred million."
Serena didn't even flinch. "Eight hundred million."
The Ghost Alliance elder's voice panicked over the earpiece. "Demon! We only have three hundred million! I know this chip is crucial to the Ghost Alliance, but eight hundred million is way too steep of a loss!"
Serena's lips curled into a smirk, her lazy tone perfectly calm. "Who said I was going to buy it?"
The elder paused, bewildered. "Then what are you doing?"
"Stop prying into Demon's business!" Black Jack chimed in, barely containing her excitement. "Does she look like the kind of person who takes a loss?"
Sure enough, at that exact moment, the center booth placed another bid. "One billion."
One billion?
Everyone in the venue gasped in shock.
Bidding a billion dollars for a single chip—this was pure insanity!
The crowd fully expected the woman to raise the stakes, continuing this clash of the titans.
Rex sat back comfortably, raising an eyebrow as he waited for her counter.
However, the other booth fell completely silent.
"One billion going once! One billion going twice! One billion going three times!"
"Sold!"
The auctioneer slammed the gavel down, trembling with excitement.
The corner of Rex's mouth ticked up into a mocking smirk. He raised his wine glass in the air, offering a sarcastic toast toward her booth.
Trying to snatch something from him?
She’d bitten off more than she could chew.
