Marianne stomped over to Serena in her high heels and raised her hand, ready to smash her purse over Serena's head. "I'm talking to you! What's with this attitude?"
Even though Serena had been cool and distant toward them recently, Marianne's memory of her was still fixed on the past twenty years of her being humble and eager to please.
In Marianne's eyes, Serena's current attitude was just another ploy to get the Wynn family's attention.
Marianne swung the purse with full force, holding nothing back.
But just as the bag was about to hit, Serena grabbed her wrist.
Due to inertia, the heavy bag swung down and slammed onto Marianne's own wrist.
The purse was filled with various items, and the impact made Marianne cry out in pain.
"Serena!"
Marianne, shocked that Serena dared to fight back, struggled and tried to swing the purse at her again.
The moment she opened her mouth to shout, a wad of wet paper towels was shoved inside. "Serena… what are you doing…"
Marianne's words were muffled as she raged.
Her outburst was too violent. The water from the paper towels in her mouth trickled down her throat, making her choke.
She began to cough violently.
The more she coughed, the more water seeped from the soaked paper, making her feel as if her lungs were about to burst.
Even as she coughed, she tried to grit out Serena's name.
"Consider that a rinse for your filthy mouth," Serena said, her eyes cold as she let go of Marianne's arm.
Marianne, already coughing uncontrollably, was thrown off balance by the forceful shove. She staggered back a few steps.
Her high heel twisted, and she fell heavily to the ground, her face contorting in pain.
"Gag… Serena, you… ugh!" Marianne cried out in agony, trying to claw the paper towels out of her mouth.
The wet paper had turned into a sticky mush inside her mouth, with small pieces getting stuck in her throat.
Every time she tried to speak, Marianne just gagged relentlessly.
Serena looked down at the pathetic and disgusting person on the floor. This was the woman whose smile she had once yearned for, whom she had tried so desperately to please.
