Adrian's eyes darkened. Seeing Serena's cool, indifferent expression, he pulled Hailey tighter into his embrace, his voice cold. "Why should you move? You're the one who should be sitting next to me now."
As he spoke, his gaze remained fixed on Serena's face, searching for any flicker of emotion.
But the girl's expression remained impassive, completely unlike the joyful look she used to have whenever she saw him.
He scowled.
Then he heard Hailey's trembling voice. "Miss Serena, I know… I know you came for Adrian. Since you're here, you… you should come in and sit down."
She put on a pitiful act, looking as though she was terrified of Serena but enduring it for Adrian's sake.
That reminded Adrian.
Serena had come to Obsidian Palace because of his call.
She had come for him.
The irritation that had been rising in Adrian subsided slightly at that thought.
His mood even improved considerably.
He smirked, leaning back lazily against the sofa. He tilted his head up and said in a condescending tone, "Since you're here, what are you doing standing in the doorway? Get in here and apologize to Hailey."
His overt protectiveness of Hailey made everyone in the room look at Serena, eager to watch the drama unfold.
Brian was standing just outside the door, in a blind spot for those inside the room.
