Serena couldn't be bothered to look at Nicholas anymore. She lifted the corner of her eye, glancing sideways at Karen and Isabella.
Her crimson lips curled into a deeply ironic smile. "Jealous of her?"
The cool voice wasn't loud, but it reached everyone's ears clearly.
Her gaze was tinged with disdain and mockery. "Jealous that she treats the scraps left over from making pills like some kind of treasure? That she paid an outrageous price for them at an auction?"
At this, she couldn't help but let out a short, sharp laugh. "Should I be jealous of her ignorance?"
"Y-You're lying!" Isabella shot back, her eyes red with anger and frustration.
She had spent so much money on EverVita Essence, treating it like a precious treasure, a miracle drug.
How could it possibly be the dregs left over from making pills?
This was a hundred times more humiliating than a direct slap in the face.
Isabella looked at Serena, utterly wronged. "EverVita Essence is an herbal medicine personally developed by the Ghost Doctor. It has the effect of strengthening one's constitution and nourishing the body. It sells for an astronomical price on the market. How could it possibly be scraps?"
Moreover, the auction house she went to was an internationally renowned one.
They would never pass off fakes as the real thing.
Isabella bit her lower lip hard, her pale face looking even more aggrieved. "Sister, the family gave you plenty of money, enough to buy a lot of decent gifts. You can't be disrespectful to the Ghost Doctor just because your bottle of… whatever health supplements you brought from who-knows-where was outshone by his EverVita Essence!"
She put on an act of looking out for Serena. "The Ghost Doctor's authority is beyond question. Sister, you should stop trying to show off."
Long-term use would yield even more obvious results.
It was more than enough to fool a bunch of foreigners.
Isabella, of course, understood Serena's implication. Her face instantly turned pale.
"You were the only person from Elyndor at that auction. Didn't you find that strange?" Serena's look was one you'd give to a complete idiot. "Only a fool like you would get played by a few shills driving up the price, stupidly raising your bid three times and even paying that ridiculous final price."
"Do you have any idea how the people who ship EverVita Essence overseas are laughing at you? And here you are, so proud of yourself. It's laughably pathetic."
Inch by inch, the color drained from Isabella's face, only to be replaced by a deep, crimson flush of shame, anger, and humiliation.
Her eyes widened as she stared at Serena in disbelief.
