Aaron finally understood. "So Matt must’ve thought Curtis had discovered his secret—and ran off in a panic."
Selina nodded firmly. "Then keep digging."
About half an hour later, they unearthed an iron box.
Selina’s eyes lit up. She brushed the dirt away and saw a small combination lock on it.
Aaron muttered, "Want me to just pry it open?"
Breaking open a box like that would’ve been easy enough—the lock was more symbolic than secure.
But Selina shook her head, then calmly entered a set of numbers. With a crisp click, the lock popped open.
Aaron stared, wide-eyed. "Wait—what was the code? How did you even know it?"
The box had just been dug up—how could she possibly know the combination?
Selina replied evenly, "It’s the date my mother got pregnant with me."
Inside lay a single envelope, neatly sealed and marked: For Selina.
It was unmistakably a letter from Curtis—written to the daughter he’d never lived to meet.
Curtis knew that Matt would not let the Hill Family go, and after the Brooks Family ceased to exist, Victoria would be in trouble. At the critical moment, before dying, Curtis chose to take a gamble - leaving the letter to his unborn child.
If that child ever grew up and uncovered the truth, finding this very box, then his purpose would finally be fulfilled. But the odds of that happening were nearly impossible.
That Selina now held the letter was both a miracle—and destiny.
Aaron leaned closer. "So what does it say—?"
But when Selina unfolded the letter, she froze.
The page was blank.
Selina’s eyes narrowed. "It must’ve been treated with something special."
Aaron glanced toward the darkening sky. "It’s late. Let’s head back first and figure it out later."
Selina nodded.
Back at the villa, she sat quietly in the study, the envelope spread out before her.
Logan handed her a glass of water, his tone calm and thoughtful. "Your father must’ve used a method only you could trigger—to reveal the message."
Selina rested her chin in her hand. "But when he wrote this, I hadn’t even been born yet..."
Her words trailed off.
It was true—Curtis had died before she was born.
But her grandparents had still been alive then. They might not have dared contact her mother, but surely they’d known the child had been born.
So maybe the letter was written by Curtis—but sealed by her grandparents, using something they knew only their granddaughter could unlock.
As scientists, they would never rely on simple chemicals—because what they could create, others could too.
So then... what would they use?
After a long silence, Selina suddenly picked up the small fruit knife beside her. She drew it lightly across her fingertip.
Logan’s gaze flickered, his brow tightening slightly.
Selina pressed her bleeding finger to the letter.
At once, faint words began to bloom across the page—rising like ink in water, as though the paper itself were waking up.
Her heart pounded. She pressed her finger again, letting a few more drops of blood sink into the fibers.
More words appeared, line after line.
And the longer she read, the darker her expression became.
Logan, watching quietly beside her, saw both her trembling hand—and the chilling message now written in blood upon the page.
[Selina,
I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but I believe my daughter must have inherited Victoria’s brilliance. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
If you’re reading this letter, then you already know the sins of Matt and Hannah. You’ve learned that the Brooks family did not die by accident.
