Selina’s heart gave a sharp jolt.
"I’ll definitely miss you. So...you..."
Wait—was she seriously that bold?
"I’m talking about Logan coming back early, and you’re just standing there calm?!"
Selina ignored them all completely. Her target was clear: she headed straight for the biggest private room, shoving past the guards chasing after her.
"Damn it, what do we do? Miss Nelson is celebrating in there—we can’t let this woman disrupt it!"
Luke swallowed hard. "Uh...did you check social media?"
All the evidence said she was Joe’s daughter. But...
"Holy shit, Selina—holy shit! That was badass! How’d you even think of that? Holy shit!"
Logan answered evenly, "No. It’s your birthday—just enjoy it. Don’t worry about me."
Luke looked like he was going to pass out, rolling his eyes back. "What the hell? What did you find out? How the hell do you know?"
If Mrs. Reid wanted him back early, then he’d try to be back early.
[Mr. Reid booked out the entire CY Club.]
Scott Hanks and the others laughed and waved him over. "Come on, Logan, time to cut the cake!"
Luke sucked in a deep breath, watching her expression carefully. "Wait...you...you already know?"
Sure enough, the bouncer stopped her. "Miss, the club is closed for a private event tonight. You can’t go in."
Luke jumped like he’d been shocked, going from righteous anger to sheer terror. He stammered: "Selina, calm down, okay? Murder’s illegal!"
"!"
She frowned, feeling an odd discomfort twist in her chest.
That she was Joe’s biological daughter? Not exactly great news. Selina’s face stayed blank as she nodded.
Of course Logan hadn’t posted anything himself. But some things spread whether he wanted them to or not.
Luke nearly had a heart attack. Selina! If you’re going to lie, at least make it believable! Friends with Riley? More like mortal enemies!
Sure, she wasn’t happy about the test result, but she wasn’t about to lose her mind over it.
Selina turned to look at him. Huh? Freak out about what?
Luke: "..." Really? Because you look like you’re about to kill someone!
Luke was still muttering to himself, trying to figure out how they were supposed to get in, when he saw Selina already striding right up to the entrance like she owned the place, clearly planning to force her way in.
Selina nodded. "I’m calm."
Remembering what she’d pulled five minutes ago, Luke had turned into a one-man hype machine.
Once they cut the cake, he could leave.
"Miss, you can’t go that way!"
[Mr. Reid flew back early from Country Y just to celebrate Miss Nelson’s birthday?]
In the dim lighting, Logan held a wine glass while a woman sat on his lap, looking intimate and close.
But he’d be leaving soon.
"Logan came back early?" Selina narrowed her eyes, glancing at her phone. Nothing. No message from him at all.
The Morris family had surely done their own paternity test before accepting her. That was why neither Joe nor Grandma Morris had ever questioned if she really belonged to them.
"Who said I’m letting it slide." Selina lifted a brow. "CY Club, right? Take me there."
Logan sat in the corner of the sofa, swirling his drink, waiting for the staff to bring out the cake.
At that moment, they heard shouts outside the door.
Logan gave a polite nod.
Luke suddenly burst into the villa, face full of panic. "Don’t freak out. Seriously, do not freak out!"
Five minutes earlier.
Inside the club’s largest private room.
Luke recoiled, horrified. "You’re just gonna let this slide?"
"The club is booked for a private event. You need to leave!"
"Looks like they really booked the whole place...Riley went all out. Even though the club’s owned by the Nelson family, a single night’s revenue is no joke. Renting it out means they’re not making any money at all..."
CY Club was an upscale venue. A lot of the city’s elite liked to throw birthdays and parties there.
It was ironclad: she and Joe were father and daughter.
Selina gently pressed her hand over his. "Don’t."
Selina’s lips tightened. She suddenly felt lost, unsettled, and for no clear reason she just wanted Logan.
Selina paused, then suddenly gave him a bright smile.
Luke had originally thought about hiding it from her, but the more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He finally decided to spill it.
He’d gotten off the plane today only to find a text from Hunter asking him to stop by CY Club. Logan rarely turned Hunter down. He arrived only to find Hunter wasn’t there—the message had been from Riley.
Plenty of people were joking online:
In the other, Riley kissed the corner of his mouth. Logan’s eyes were lowered, as if responding.
"Selina!"
She paused. "Come back soon."
Selina had looked at the bouncer and given him a calm, sweet smile.
But tonight, the doors were firmly shut.
It was Riley’s birthday. She’d asked him to stay for cake before he left. Out of respect for Hunter, he’d agreed to wait a few minutes before going. Unfortunately, his phone had chosen that moment to die, so he hadn’t been able to tell Selina.
"Logan, you’re so quiet. Was your trip tiring?" Riley asked, all concern.
Luke had practically felt his soul leaving his body. We’re so screwed.
