The man’s lips curved into a faint, elusive smile. Behind the lenses of his gold-rimmed glasses, his narrow eyes slightly narrowed, and his gaze collided mid-air with Selina’s.
Selina: "..."
Her throat tightened, and she nearly choked, a wave of panic surging within her. Why is Logan here?! More importantly, how much did he hear?!
She swallowed hard, forcing herself to stay composed as she quickly stepped forward. Tentatively, she asked, "Mr. Reid, when did you arrive?"
Logan glanced at her lazily, his tone unhurried. "Just now."
Selina exhaled in relief. Good. He shouldn’t have seen anything important.
"From the moment Clark Miss kicked that man, I saw everything," Logan added slowly, as if determined to make her embarrassment complete.
Selina’s just-recovered composure shattered again, her entire body stiffening. Kicking someone counts as ’just now’? This man’s definition of time is truly unique.
Logan seemed to savor her flustered expression, the smile on his lips deepening slightly. There was a gentle warmth to it, yet beneath that warmth lay a chill, like the deceptive spring breeze following a snowstorm.
He stepped closer, his towering figure leaning in slightly. His narrowed eyes glinted with danger. "I saw Ryan grabbing your hand just now, Miss Clark. What were you two discussing?"
His sudden proximity unsettled Selina’s composure.
His breath enveloped her, his low voice enough to make her ears burn. She instinctively noticed the subtle movement of his Adam’s apple and the small mole at the corner of his eye—a strangely alluring touch that added a hint of deadly charm to his already magnetic presence.
It’s a pity... Such an unbelievably attractive man... yet impotent. Selina sighed inwardly, feeling it was a terrible waste.
Still, she couldn’t very well tell Logan, "Your nephew said you’re impotent," could she?
After a brief pause, her eyes darted briefly before she offered a relaxed smile. "Nothing important. Ryan was just being rude, spouting nonsense, and even trying to stir up trouble in our marriage."
As she finished speaking, her gaze betrayed her for a split second, involuntarily flicking downward toward Logan’s lower half. Realizing her blunder, she immediately snapped her eyes back up as if burned.
Logan noticed the slip and his eyes darkened slightly, narrowing as an enigmatic glint flashed in them.
"Stirring up trouble in our marriage?" His voice was low, devoid of discernible emotion, yet laced with a sharp edge.
Selina shivered, alarms blaring in her mind. What the hell was I thinking? Why did I look there? That’s like poking at someone’s sore spot!
In an attempt to salvage the situation, she hurriedly deflected, pinning the blame back on Ryan. "Ryan wanted me to apologize to Natalia. Mr. Reid, can you believe it? He actually thought I’d agree to such nonsense. I got upset and kicked him."
Logan’s smile deepened slightly, his tone faintly amused. "Miss Clark sounds so aggrieved. Are you asking me to stand up for you?"
Selina instinctively nodded, then realized how ridiculous she must look. Lowering her head, she mumbled in a quieter voice, "I just think someone like Ryan needs to be taught a lesson."
Logan responded softly, "Very well."
Standing nearby, Jack, Logan’s assistant, shivered involuntarily. What did Ryan do to deserve this? Getting kicked twice by Mrs. Reid wasn’t enough; now Mr. Reid himself is going to "educate" him? And Logan’s "lessons" were something only the truly unfortunate had the misfortune of experiencing.
Half an hour later, their car came to a smooth stop at Sapphire Valley Villa.
Selina stepped out and headed straight for the entrance. Logan followed unhurriedly, his earlier warmth and ease wiped away, replaced by a chilling, dangerous aura. His eyes were sharp as blades, exuding a murderous intent that sent shivers down Jack’s spine.
Jack dared not ask, cut off what exactly, and quickly nodded. "Understood, sir." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Smack!"
The crisp sound echoed in the silent room.
Mrs. Hayes clutched her face, stunned for a moment before she erupted into a fit of rage. "You dare hit me? You really are a wild, uncultured brat! You stole my daughter’s fiancé and now you dare to strike me? Outrageous! A mistress acting so brazenly!"
Selina’s gaze was frosty, her tone razor-sharp. "Mrs. Hayes, it seems you’re too old to remember your manners. Allow me to teach you, on behalf of your ancestors. And this isn’t just about hitting you—" She turned her head slightly. "Jack!"
Jack immediately stepped forward, his head bowed respectfully. "Madam, what are your orders?"
Selina’s gaze was icy as she pointed with precision. "Show them out."
Mrs. Hayes trembled with anger, her teeth grinding audibly. "How dare you! My daughter is the real future Mrs. Reid! You’re just a nobody—you have no right!"
Selina tilted her head slightly, her smile light but her gaze sharp as a blade. "The future Mrs. Reid? What a pity. I’m the current Mrs. Reid. Now tell me, do I have the right to make you leave?"
Mrs. Hayes’s face turned an alarming shade of red, and she raised her hand to strike again. But the cold, oppressive aura radiating from Selina made her falter. She was used to being revered, accustomed to seeing others cower before her. She had never faced such humiliation.
"You’ll regret this, Selina! Just you wait. Logan will marry my daughter—"
Before she could finish, the sound of a door opening slowly echoed through the room.
Then came a deep, frosty male voice, each word like a blade slicing through the air, cutting straight to the bone.
"Mrs. Hayes, since when did the Hayes Family have the right to interfere in my marriage?"
