Moving in.

Lotus POV

I hate my mom. not really, but she’s not my favorite person right now, I kind of want to smack some sense into her, maybe smack her head with a hammer so she’d see straight. Instead, here I am, putting my clothes and everything I own into a box, note that it’s a small box, I don’t own much.

“Are you done?” Mom asks, she was singing and dancing around the house, she was so happy about moving in, the wedding, and everything else to come.

“No,” I say in a cold voice, I’m mad at her, I wasn’t smiling or showing her any happiness.

“Then speed it up,” she says in a firm voice and keeps going, she had all of her stuff packed, she’s only taking some of her clothes along with her, she’s donating all of our furniture and kitchenware.

“Did the charity agree to take any of them?” I’asked her, when she announced that she’s going to donate instead of throw in the trash.

“They said they’re going to look them through,” she says.

By the end of the day, I couldn’t procrastinate anymore, I didn’t have anything left to pack, I made them last so long, but I was done, I followed her through the house, saying goodbye to every inch of our place. “I’ll be fine,” she assures me, I couldn’t sleep that night, I flipped and moved the whole night, what’s going to happen to us? To me?

“Lotus, it’s time to get up, baby,” Mom says, shaking me awake, was it all a bad dream, I’m still home with my mother, and there’s no wolf who’s trying to get between us.

“Mom,” I say with a smile on my face, but then I saw her wearing the white dress, my smile faded, and I got up without saying any word to her.

“Put your dress on baby, he’s almost here,” she says.

“Isn’t it bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding?” I

ask her.

“It’s not a wedding, it’s just a courthouse marriage.” she says, right because there is no party afterward.

“Whatever you say,” I say with another eye roll, I’m not this rude to her usually, but today is a bad day for me.

I put on the dress, and look around the house one last time, this used to be my house my whole life, this was my place, and now I’m going to leave it behind. I’m going to move into god knows where.

Levent picked us up, it’s the first time I see his car, he got a black car, darkened windows and the army logo stamped on the windowsill, and the license plate, he opened the door for mom, helped her get in, put on her seatbelt for her, he then ran back to the house, picked our stuff and threw them in the back of his car, it took him two trips to take everything we owned.

“Aren’t you coming in, Flower?” Levent asks me.

“It’s Lotus,” I say with a giant pout.

“In?” he repeats, opening the back door for me this time.

“Fine,” I groan and get in, he closed the door for me, and ran to get in

the driver seat, he drove us out of our poor neighborhood, we passed by all the places I knew, the grocery store, the park, the corner where they sold drug.

“I know you’re gonna miss it Lotus, but you’re gonna like our new home.” Mom promises me again.

“She won’t miss this dump,” Levent says and I glared at him from behind, I hoped his head would explode from my imaginary laser eyes.

“We called it home for years Levent, don’t be so cruel, see that drug dealer, he helps in the church on Sundays.” Mom says, and I wished to make her head explode as well, that wasn’t a nice thing to mention.

“Right, of course, love,” Levent says to my mother with a small smile, he didn’t care that she scolded him in front of me.

The drive was a long one, we left the whole neighborhood and even town I’m used to, we went downtown to the courthouse first, they got out and waited for me to join. I decided that I better follow them, and listen to what kind of vows they share or if mom decided to give me up and sell me for the wolves.

“We’re here to get married,” Levent says, looking for our judge, and

our room.

“This way,” he says, taking lead, we weren’t the only ones getting married we had to wait for our turn, I saw happy couples and even happier families, but not me.

“Yes, shouldn’t you ask if anyone objects?” I remind him.

The gates had locks, a password to enter and guards on the door, Levent entered the code, said hello to the guards, introduced his mate and her daughter, and finally drove us inside, the big metal doors were closed behind us, locking us inside. The place looked like a very fancy neighborhood, there was no drug dealers who helped in the church on the corner, nor a small small corner store that had all kind of contraband candy.

“This is just the entrance, we live well within,” Levent assured me as if this part of the compound was the cheap part, where the poor lived.
