Pain.
Lotus POV
“Do you mind getting that, I need to have a very long phone call with a certain someone.” Emmaline says holding a paper with a frown on her face, whoever have written one was in deep troubles with her.
“No problem.” I say. I’ve had coffee, and even read a few messages with her, just for the fun of it. I was keeping Emmaline company she even asked for my opinion more than once.
And now, I’m opening the door for her, I didn’t mind helping, she’s been nice to me the whole morning, and she didn’t mind having me around, she had this relaxing aura around her, it felt like you could trust her.
“Wolf,” I say, seeing Levent in front of me.
“There you are,” he says.
“Mom knows I’m here,” I defend myself.
“I know, she sent me to get you,” he says.
“Why?” I ask, I didn’t want to go up home, I wanted to stay down here and hide.
“My brother is gone, you can come up, I’m not going to keep you away from your own home,” he says.
“It’s not my home,” I say defending myself quickly.
D DO
“I sure wish you’d count it as one, for your mother’s sake,” he answers
“Right…right, I’ll be up in a bit,” I answer him.
“We’re having ready by five.” he says, and I was ready to object.
five.” he sainner out with my brother tonight, be up a
“Do it or don’t, we’ll be waiting for you,” he says leaving me behind, I groaned and walked back into the beta’s house.
“That wasn’t nice you know,” she says.
“What do you mean?” I ask her.
“You treating Levent in such a bad way, what did he do to you?” she asks me
“What do you mean?” I say hurt by her words.
“I mean Lotus, pretty flower, you don’t need to be so aggressive with Levent, your mother would have his balls if he dares to say anything mean to you, or dares to lift a hand at you,” she says and I smiled, we both knew mom would do it without thinking twice.
“But, Levent is under my protection, I’m his beta and it’s my job to keep him safe, and that includes you,” she says.
“You’re worried I’m going to kill him?” I ask her.
“I don’t think you’ll take it that far, but I want you to start being nicer to him,” she says in such an authoritative voice, I wanted to how my head and tell her yes.
“But I don’t like him, and he doesn’t like me back,” I say with a groan.
“You both love your mother, you both agree on that, and it will hurt your mother when she sees you treating her mate so badly.” she says.
“I don’t curse him or run around kicking him in the arse like I dream to,” I confess to her.
“Yes, but being rude to him,” she says.
“We both don’t like each other.” I say, objecting.
“Even if, Miss Flower, next time you’re rude to one of my wolves. especially Levent, you’re getting in so much troubles,” she says and I felt the urge to cry. I felt like a child being scolded.
“Fine…” I say, crossing both hands over my chest with a big pout on my face.
“You’re still welcome to stay until your dinner. I have some more messages to answer to, and I have some phone calls, if you want to sit in,” she says and I nod.
“Does Nutmeg do the same?” Vask, does she sit along with her mother or is this some special treatment for me only.
to be a beta like
“Yes, she loves sitting with me, she says she w me.” Emmaline says and I nod, remembering that she told me the same thing, she wants to be a beta just like her.
“Thank you, beta,” I say, thanking her for letting me spend time with
her.
“You’re one of mine, now,” she say smiling, and I smile back. I’m very close to being forced to be one of hers, but I didn’t want to be.
The burning in my shoulder have turned from slight to a painful burn. I excused myself and went into the bathroom. I rolled up my hoodie to and looked at it in the mirror, the whole mark had turned from ink black into angry red. I tried to itch it, but touching it sent waves of pain into my whole body. I tried to hold back my tears from the pain. I turned the water faucet on to the coldest setting, and placed the comer of the towel underneath the water, soaking it, and then I placed it gently against my raging red back, biting down on my lips to keep me from yelling
I repeated it a few times until the redness of the mark turned into a deep pink, and it became a lot less painful, maybe it’ll heal on it own soon, when the wolf doesn’t manage to find me. I left the bathroom taking cautious steps making sure not to move too quick, avoiding the fabric from rubbing against the skin.
I sat with the beta again but this time I was starting to feel off. may be it’s from the pain I have felt, or maybe it was. I didn’t want to think about it.
“Are you okay?” Beta Emmaline asks me
“I’m fine, just a headache, I didn’t sleep well. I say which wasn’t a full lie.
“Parties are always crazy like that, I remember when I was your age. we used to sneak vodka,” she says with a giggle.
“Shouldn’t you tell me not to do that?” I ask her, confused
“Yeah, don’t,” she says in a sarcastic tone.
“We just had beer if it makes you feel any better,” I say feeling that she
didn’t care
“You deserve some fun, and Mariano and others were there with you. wolf needs a lot of alcohol to get drunk and will sober up as soon as they feel danger, you’re safe,” she assures me, so that’s why she wasn’t worried at all.
“Do you need something for your head?” she asks me fifteen minutes later, the pain in my head was sharpening, and I couldn’t see straight
“Yes, please.” I say, and she gives me two Tylenol pills.
They did nothing for my pain, it got even worse as the time passed by at two o’clock. I felt like I was dying, so I decided to go home to my own mother, in case I do really die. I’d have a chance to say goodbye to her.
“Do you need me to walk you upstairs?” Beta Emmaline asks me.
“Nah. I’m fine.” I lied, walking out of her house, thanking her for having me over, or at least I tried to, I felt like I was stumbling on my own words.
I knocked on our door, unable to open it on my own and waited for mom to let me in, but instead it was the wolf, I felt bad for talking in a mean way to him all the time, and I was too tired to do it anyway.
Dom, to die there Instead. I said some kind of hello and went into n in peace, I got in bed fully dressed whining from pain and some kind of fever? Maybe I had fever. I must have caught some kind of virus or a cold last night, sitting outside, that was it, I’m not getting sick cause of what Emmaline said, I won’t die because I didn’t find some stupid wolf, I don’t want to be found anyway.
“Lotus, is that you?” Mom calls out loud, but I couldn’t even lift my
head to answer her, I whined and groaned, hoping that was a good enough answer.
“Lotus. what’s going on?” she says with a sigh, she had enough of me. she walked into my room and saw me in bed.
“Pretending to be sick now?” she asks me and I shook my head, there wasn’t any pretending.
“Are you sure?” she asks me and I nod, I was very sure of what I’m feeling, very sick, tired, and dying, like I could hardly survive the next
hour or so.
She touched my forehead and her face turned from anger to concern. she called to the wolf. I groaned at the idea of him seeing me sick, and tired, she told him to check my fever and he did the same as her. touching my forehead and announcing that I’m boiling up.
“How long have you been like this?” she asks me.
“Just now,” I say, I just felt the fever and felt tired.
“Do you have any meds you can give her?” Wolf asks and she nods, going to get the meds for me, she hands me two pills and a glass of
water.
“Does anything hurt?” Mom asks me and I shook my head no, although my whole body hurts but I didn’t want to tell her.
“We should let her rest. give the meds some time to work,” Wolf says. and they both left me alone in peace. I tried to sleep, the meds must have helped. I slipped into some peaceful sleep, but it turned into a nightmare, I dreamt of a wolf running after me, chasing me, wanting to bite me, or maybe eat me and be over with it.
I woke up screaming, looking around the room, looking for the wolf. was it here, is it going to cat me, but the room was empty, it’s just me in here.
“Are you okay? We heard you yelling.” Mom says walking into my
room.
“I’m okay, it’s just a nightmare,” I say my whole body still shaking.
