We waited for lona to wake up, and it’s been three days since she was admitted back in the hospital. Doc told us that it’s up to her if she’s ever going to wake up. It angered her two mates that hasn’t left her side. They walked off pissed and I am a bit glad they did. They were starting to stink.

I didn’t know what to do, and every day I will go to school then come back with the hopes that she’s awake. Mammie hasn’t stepped out of the room while her sons comes and goes with their mates. Skylar or Mark drives me to the hospital and I suspect it was Frier’s orders to do so. I was an even tighter leash from the brothers since the time Mammie offered to set me up in a blind date.

I have no intention of going to any dates but out of respect and to infuriate the possessive rejecting ass that is Frier, I was going to one. The only people allowed to stay overnight in lona’s room were me, Mammie and her two mates.

Her mates weren’t supposed to be allowed to stay but no nurse nor doctor or orderly wanted to ask the seething and panic stricken Alphas to leave their mate. Synthia comes by whenever she can but she told us Doctor Frederick fancies a nurse that’s roaming around the ER hence why he’s been a bit busy dating rather than spending time with his daughter

Now, I’m alone because I was able to convince Mammie to go home and take a shower. I’ve braided lona’s hair more countless of times at the point.where all I can see in my vision were braids. Synthia says she’ll come by when she finishes her homework and would take the bus.

I ask her if Doc was okay with that and all she says “If he’s going to forget having a daughter just because of a gold digging nurse then I don’t need to tell him anything”

I swear Synthia is going to grow up in to an interesting teenager, I set the perfect fishtail braid on one side and brush the baby hair from lona’s forehead. I took out my own homework and start scribbling the assignment that was given to us by Damiano’s substitute,

I jolt when the door opens and Mammie comes in looking refreshed and bringing bags of food for the both of us. My parents has come by yesterday to make sure I have enough clothes to last the winter. As much as Dad hates me not going home and spending time with them, they knew I needed to stay with lona.

lona has done the same for me and it was time that I repay her back. Mom made sure that lona was having good dreams and assured me, Mammie and her mates that lona is alive and

it really was her choice to wake up or not. Mom ate all the nightmares that tried to wiggle it’s way in lona’s mind.

“She has a lot” she said while taking a blank glass orb and storing some in it. It must have really been a lot if Mom has to take out her orb.

Drake looks pained when he saw the nightmare playing on the orb. Damiano on the other hand looks like he wanted to explode. I realize the nightmare wasn’t really a nightmare but a memory that follows her to her sleep.

It was of Smith beating her black and blue until she couldn’t move anymore. Then she watched helplessly for her Mother to get beaten by him with a pipe. How many times was I too late on saving lona from her father? I thought, maybe too many times.

“There is enough food for the four of us” Mammie says placing some cartons on the rolling table on the side. “But since the other two are gone, we’ll save this for them later.”

“What’s on the menu?” I ask, putting my homework aside as my stomach made an audible

growl.

The vampire’s neck in my mouth would taste better Eros says, growling and challenging Deima already.

Mark your days, wolf. You’ll be gone soon from this body and I won’t have to share your rabid thoughts Deima fires back

I sigh, feeling a headache coming as they continue to bicker and argue. It takes a lot in me to listen to whatever Mammie was saying but I didn’t want to be rude and ask her if we can just

eat in silence.

I ate my Chinese take-out and try to follow Mammie’s voice. She’s talking about taking in Michael and Doram since she doesn’t trust Sarah nor Ross anymore. I couldn’t blame her,

Sarah is a bitch.

While Mammie was talking about her family, Deima and Eros were bickering about killing each other. I know the topic would go from them wanting to kill each other to me.

You should go die, Mirage! So, I can kill this mongrels soul in the heavens Deima hisses. making me furrow my brows at the sudden migraine that came

Oh, We’ll see. Once I get out of this pathetic human’s body, I’ll be the one biting your neck out.

I pause and close my eyes. I lean back on my chair as I waited for them to have a less unsettling conversation before I start eating again. At times, I’d feel the need to cut myself again. Those are the only times we three ever agreed on anything.

We wanted to die and escape this life. We wanted to escape each other and the life we’re stuck with. I remember the hundreds of cuts I’d be able to do in a single day. I would remember Dad crying like a child while he held my cut arms. It takes a lot for a demon to cry especially my demon father who presides over the suffering of the wicked in the underworld.

He’s heard every horror story and suffering there is in the world and yet he cries when he holds his daughters arm. I could remember the sadness and helplessness in the redness of his eyes. His eyes that was the color of blood that oozed out of my arm like a waterfall.

Mom on the other hand would tremble and shake at the sight of them. She looks like she’s seeing the worst nightmare she has ever eaten or saw. My Mom doesn’t cry, she falls apart at the seam. I remember her hugging me with such a force and strength that I’d never expect from her. She hugs me like that would stop my soul from escaping my body as I slowly bled to death.

I have my medication for the mental health thing but I’d rather not say the names of my medication. I don’t ever read them and just ask the pharmacist to hand it to me. knowing their names would make it real. I even regret giving Deima and Eros names because they

made it even more real that I was an abomination that should never have survived

I feel a hand on my shoulder. I open my eyes which I didn’t realize I closed. “Are you okay?” Mammie asks, she’s frowning with a concerned glint in her eye.

I made a small smile “I’m okay”

Die, you fucking half breed Eros spats at me. her anger increasing the beats of my heart.

“You don’t look okay. Do you want to get some rest?” she made comforting circles on my

shoulder.

I shake my head “I’ll just finish my food and do some homework. It’ll take my mind off of things”

Mammie doesn’t look convinced but I persisted. Thankfully, there was a knock on the door that took Mammie’s attention. She says she’ll get it and made her way to it. It’s probably

Damiano or Drake

“Trace…” I hear the tremble in Mammie’s voice. Only a certain few would ever make Mammie scared since she’s the only woman that can stand against her werewolf sons with anger management issues.

I couldn’t believe my ears and since I couldn’t believe it I stand from my seat and pull Mammie away was a stupid prank, I am going to hurt someone.

from the door. I swear if this

I I froze when I met the familiar blue eyes that once held so much emotion. I see the familiar boyish looks that has turned in to a mature looking man.

It was Trace and he looked like he grew up from the grave. How was that even possible? Suddenly, his scent hit my nose and aggravated my wolf and made Deima hiss in caution. He wasn’t human anymore. How could I have not notice the paleness of his body and the fact that he was fucking alive.

He gives me a toothy smile, one that resembles a lot of the smile he used to give us when we

were young.

My feet felt chained to the floor. Shock overriding my senses at the fact that Trace was alive and that he’s a fucking vampire. I remember burying him, and he fucking had an open casket

viewing.

I have seen him die and he did die. I was sure of it because I couldn’t hear his fucking heart

but now it was unmistakable. His constant and steady beating heart.

“Hello Mammie and hello Mirage” He says, his voice lower than when we were thirteen. Of course it was because he grew up. How? I don’t fucking know.

I didn’t know what to do. Should I invite him inside? I glance warily at Mammie who still looks shocked. I can’t believe Mammie is stumped, she’s the kind of person who you’ll rely on and the one who should be giving orders.

“You’re supposed to be dead” was all I was able to say.

He sighs “I know that I should be sleeping in my coffin right now, but I wasn’t actually dead. The time I… died was just the vampire genes taking over. It stopped my heart for a bit and I honestly thought I was dead too but you know…I was born with a dormant vampire gene because apparent, I’m a halfling”

“What’s with that stupid look? I’m not going to sympathize with you just because you discovered you non-human origin. I’m not like you”

“Like me? You’re a vampire too”

“I didn’t fake my death and not show myself to the people that cared and loved me. I might be a vampire but I’m not as big of an asshole like you”

“I expected that. But I was alive, I just had a really slow and inconspicuous heartbeat at the time. I also needed to control my thirst to be able to show myself”

“Wait” I furrow my brows and look warily at him “Only Purebloods can change that slow?”

“Yes, my biological father is a pureblood” he purse his lips “Can I come in? I think our conversation is better inside the room”

I finally hear something from Mammie even though it was a sigh at first. “Come in, and close

the door behind you.”

1 step aside for him to enter. He smiles in thanks while sitting on one of the lounging chairs by the TV. He glances at the sleeping lona and I see his eyes flicker to an emotion I can’t place.

“No, touching” I warn with a low growl.

He chuckles “You still haven’t changed”

I cross my arms over my chest “What do you mean by that?”

“You’re still a ball buster” he says while running his hand through his blonde locks. They look golden now rather than the old platinum blonde. It suits him.

“Why would I change? When I’m perfect”

He laughs while I give him the best grin I could muster from the shock of what’s happening. I * am fucking talking to Trace again. The Trace that we thought was fucking dead.

“You’ve…turned” Mammie says while giving him a bottle of water but then she realizes what she’s doing. “Right, you don’t drink things like this anymore. You prefer-”

“Water is fine” Trace smiles gratefully and takes the bottle of water and as if to make a point that it was really fine. He twists open the sealed cap and takes some sips on the water.

“This happened five years ago, surely you could have awakened and trained yourself after a year. The extra four years was unnecessary.” I interject to which made him snap his gaze at

me

He looks guilty “I’m sorry, I had to inherit my father’s estates and properties”

“Oh, so the father that abandoned you and your mother came back” I lean on the footboard of lona’s bed. I stand between him and her since I feel this urge that something was going to happen

Kill the fucking bloodsucker Eros growls

Trace looks offended as he pursed his lips in a tight line before speaking again. “people

makes mistakes”

“How about visiting the man that truly raised you?” I raise a challenging brow at him. my anger and instincts sparking inside of me. “Have you ever thought of him?”

He glares at me “Of course, I have”

“Then why not visit him first? I’m sure Grandpa Max would appreciate it if you tell him that

you’re alive” I grit my teeth “Grandpa Max isn’t the same anymore, to know? He locks himself in his room now”

did you

you know? Do you care

He lets out an aggravated sigh, I was ruffling his feathers. “I would get to him later”

“Later? Why? What is so important that you can’t visit the man who was actually there for you?”

He glares at me, I can see the menace in it. He wants to hurt me. Mammie sees it and it finally clicks in our brains that this isn’t the old Trace anymore. No, just like everyone he has changed.

“What are you doing here, Trace?” Mammie asks carefully, her composure slowly seeping back in to her body.

He lets out a controlled breath. He was trying to calm himself down but I’ve seen the crack on his mask and the act he is trying to pull. He wants something and I better hope it’s not

what I think it is.

“I’m here to say hello”

“bullshit” I spat “Why the fuck are you here Trace?”

He takes in labored breaths. Mammie takes a step back while keeping her eyes on him. Mammie was smart, she has lived a long life to which she learned how to handle the different species that roamed the face of the earth

Trace notices this, he notices that he’s the enemy here and not a friend. He’s different and we’ve noticed. I know enough of my own vampire to know how his mind works. Turned vampires are a bit more unpredictable than naturally born ones.

Not to mention, Trace is a fucking pureblood. The kind of vampires that were prone to madness and illusions. They were strong but what is strength when your mind and sanity is a slippery slope.

“I’m not going to hurt you”
