THIRD POV

+25 Points>

“You’re being let go” The guards say as he enters the room. His eyes not meeting the two Alphas in respect of their presence. His back straight as a rod and his hands folded neatly behind his back.

lona eyes widen “What happened?”

“Why does it matter?” Damiano says, he growls and kisses lona on the lips.

She squeals and smiles while he kisses her, but she pulls back truly curious and confused. Damiano sees this and sighs. He mutters about wanting his mate to be stupid to which lona

hits his shoulder in answer

“But truly what did happen?” Iona asks, Drake tightening on his hold on her side. Ready to pull her back behind him and to attack in case what the guard says isn’t something he would like

The guard clears his throat “Someone is taking your place”

“Taking my…place?” lona looks warily at her two mates, trying to see if they knew what the guard was talking about, but they looked just as confused as her. “Who?”

“Trace Woodworth” The guard says

The mention of his name made her mates tense and holding her firm on their side. Iona didn’t even notice it because her brain was still absorbing and repeating the words in her head. Did he just say Trace Woodworth? He took her place? He surrendered to the Elders? Why?

“Dismissed” Drake says with a growl to the guard who scurries and left the mates alone.

lona starts crying, she doesn’t know that her tears were falling yet but she feels like she is losing Trace all over again. But this was even more painful than before. Damiano feels his heart constrict at the sight of his crying mate so he leans close to her face and licks her

tears.

“Shh, please don’t cry” he lets out a low jealous growl “Especially because of another man”

Damiano sets aside her hair that’s getting sticky and wet because of her tears. His heart breaking at the same time, he wants to break something. He preferably wants to break that vampire in to pieces for making her cry and worry for him.

“Shh please don’t cry lona” Drake coos feeling his own heart breaking as well. He didn’t even know he had a heart until now. He lost his heart when his parents died but to finally feel it again, over and over when he’s with his mate. He couldn’t believe it. It was close to being a

miracle.

Damiano wiped those cold tears away from her pale face when she still didn’t stop. Iona looks like a broken doll, she is still sick and fighting off the feeling of dread and guilt. She lets in an unsteady breath and hiccups

“I can’t stop crying” lona says breathlessly. She pulls the collar of her shirt away from her throat feeling like hands were trying to take her breath away. “I can’t Breathe! Damiano! Drake

I can’t breathe”

Damiano ripped her clothes off while covering her from line of sight. Dyson comes in and groans at the ridiculous sight.

“you know that’s not good” Dyson hits Damiano away with his small body. Damiano replies with a menacing growl and tries to take Dyson down. “Relax Lycan! I need to administer

something for her panic attack”

lona shook her head “I can’t Relax! Dyson I practically am killing Trace”

Drake holds Damiano down. He ignores the feeling of his own wolf wanting to claw Dyson’s neck and throwing him out of the fifth floor that they were currently in, but his mate’s well-being is first right now and not his stupid beastly jealousy.

)

“Oh, right smart move” Dyson says with Damiano’s attempt of hurting him.

A Lycan has hardly the same control as Drake does. Drake isn’t a normal werewolf by any standards anyway. His control on his wolf is quite admirable and respected. Dyson goes to lona’s side and covered her in a blanket to appease her sneering mates at him.

“Hold on to this” Dyson says while injecting something through the IV line for lona.

lona clutches at her chest, not knowing what to do in a situation like this. She hasn’t had a panic attack before. She was always the calm child with a mature air around her even if her father beats her. The aura was still there and the same

“Please… lona whines

Then out of nowhere, a familiar man comes in the room. Trace looks dashing in his fitted clothes on his muscular body. “Oh, don’t be a drama queen lona” Trace playfully says not meaning a work and then hisses at her two mates “Stay put you werewolves, I am not taking her away. if only you’re not the reason she’s still alive, I would’ve killed you”

Damiano’s sardonic smile wasn’t so handsome, lona would’ve hit him because he was being rude. “I can say the same to you”

Trace chuckles and casually walks to lona’s side with his impressive long legs that made it easy for him to walk and get close to lona. “It’s finally nice to put a face to the name”

Damiano glares at him, watching his every move while Drake holds lona’s hand tighter. He avoids looking at Trace and just stares at lona’s face.

This is for her. This is for her. This is for her he chants in his head.

lona inhales and exhales slowly as Dyson says to do so. “Don’t… Do… This” she says between breaths.

Trace pets lona’s head while Dyson got an oxygen mask for lona to breathe in to. Drake sees Trace’s hand in his line of vision, seeing it touching her snaps something in him. He takes lona in his arms with a loud growl while Damiano steps in front of his mate and friend. He glares down at Trace, chest to chest.

“Woah calm down” Trace says taking a step back. His eyes flickering with longing to lona, but he took three steps back and sighing. Trying to contain the feelings that were threatening to spill out of him

“Did you get permission to go along the castle already?” Adriana asks, her silver hair in a tight pony tail while her metal bracelets jiggled at the movement. The five people in the room forgot that she was even there. The three didn’t even see her until she showed herself.

Trace nods. “Yes, I have asked permission but honestly your security is a joke.”

“I thought he’s a prisoner” lona gasps

“We are not monsters, lona” Adriana says with a small smile. Iona looks warily at the stranger in front of her. Adriana’s eyes creeping her out “I am Adriana, Roosevelt’s Anchor”

Everyone’s eyes widen in surprise except for Trace and lona. The three werewolves in the room knows that Roosevelt’s anchor has a habit of not saying her name as she just keeps saying her title to those who do ask.

“Hello” lona says while breathing in deeply. She was slowly calming down because of Drake’s hand under her shirt and on her back. It was rubbing soft circles on her skin, almost hypnotizing her.

“It’s finally nice to meet you in the flesh. I’ve only seen you in…light readings at the trials”

“what?” Ilona asks. She looks at Drake for answers because Damiano is still focusing on murdering trace with his glare.

“Oh” was all lona can say at the beautiful woman with the dark skin. Her silver hair is beautiful and luminescent though her eyes with the light almost white irises does creep her out but nonetheless she is beautiful with the straight nose and high cheek bones. She looks

like an Amazonian warrior.

“You’ll be able to go home after now” Trace says softly to lona. He smiles a bit for her even with the distance they have, he is trying to comfort her. “Be happy, lona Blackfield”

He says while leaving. Iona feels her chest tightens as she is probably going to have another attack, so Dyson did the only thing he can do. He drugs her to make her close her eyes and sleep.

At their Home

lona was back at her home with her two mates. She was alone in their room thinking about Trace’s execution. His trial and judgement were done, and the Elders wouldn’t let the fact of a highborn pureblood vampire slip their hands especially one that has a seat on the council.

She has done everything to not think about it. She even enrolled to the closest Ivy League university which is Carnegie. She’s majoring in biology in hopes to get in to a medical school. Her mates were surprised that she wants to be a doctor after living in a hospital for so long.

But then Damiano said if you really did think about it, it made sense that she wants to become a doctor. She knows a lot of her condition and the medicines administered to her.

She can’t help but know about it.

“She’s still depressed” Diamond says while hanging her coat on the coat hanger by the door.

Damiano looks forlorn with a messy bed head and shadows under his eyes. He nods in reply while taking a sip on his coffee.

Drake looks like a mess that is the same with Damiano. He scratches his growing facial hair and sighs.

It’s been nights as lona continues to have nightmares. Her mates help for a bit but then when she’s back in to sleeping so soundly, she’s pulled back in to a nightmare. Their own sleep suffering as they tried whatever they can to make her feel better. But at some point, they began outsourcing and asked help to the person she’s been with the longest.

Diamond took pity at the two males that helped her granddaughter “You’ve done what you can now let me do what I can”

The two leads her to their room where lona is sitting on the lounge by the window. Her eyes

distant and blank, her mind not completely there. She doesn’t even look at the sound of people entering. She is too wrapped in to her own little world that she didn’t notice them.

“lona, I raised you to be better than that” Diamond’s voice snapped lona back in to reality.

bat”

lona looks at her and a smile spreads in her face. “Mammie”

Diamond smiles back “Hello my dear” Diamond takes out a small envelope inside her brown leather bag.

She walks to lona side while her mates slowly went out of the room to give them privacy but the door was slightly open so that they can hear what the two were talking about.

“This is a letter your mother sent to me before she…”

“What?” lona says, disbelieving. “I thought she didn’t send any more letter”

“Yes, but that is the only letter left. Your Dad was about to destroy everything Dianna owned because of his grief but I was able to intercept this”

lona takes the envelope, it was browning and feels a bit like it would break if she opens it. Why didn’t you say that you have one of her letters?”

“I was scared” Diamond says truthfully, her eyes looking intensely at lona’s eyes. “Scared that whatever that letter holds it would be a tipping point for you. You’ve been through so much and I didn’t want to lose you. So, I did everything I can to keep you. But I see that that is selfish, and you need to read the last words your mother has said.”

“I…I see” lona says, softly. “Thank you for…showing me now at least you did”

“You’ve always been too kind for your own good” Diamond says, “I feel like I’ve done something right with you”

lona smiles and then stares at the letter. She doesn’t know whether to open it or not while Diamond slowly left for her privacy. With the decision it is better to know than not at all, she slowly opens the envelope and read the letters contents.

Dear lona,

If you’re reading this then I must have died. I don’t know what I’ll die of since this is a requirement for the job to write a goodbye letter if there is to happen to me, I hope that there won’t be, so I would still be able to come home to you but if not, then here it goes. I love you more than anything in this world if werewolves have soulmates then you were mine. I never had one but when I gave birth to you, it was the biggest joy I had ever possessed.

You were the reason that I chose to live. To live even if it was hard and unforgiving and unfair.

I chose to want to see you grow up and live. I don’t know what the future holds, and I don’t know if I’ll ever come back or if you’d survive cancer but all I ask is that you continue to live on. You’re the proof of everything that is good from your parents. Yes, even from your Dads.

Life is going to be hard and a lot of things would happen but all I ask is that you choose to live. Keep fighting because I know you’re strong enough to fight them. Keep breathing because I know your lungs can take it. Don’t ever choose to die because you don’t get to choose that. I won’t let you. I can’t let you choose something I never dreamed you of being.

You’re going to have such an amazing life, dear. Just you wait as patience is the key to life. I love you to the moon and back.

Love,

Mom

lona didn’t know how many times she read the letter. Guilt is the forefront of her feelings as she is guilty of choosing death rather than the life that her mother worked so hard for and wanted for her. At one point, she finally looks away from the letter and close her eyes. She also never felt as calm as she is now. This sense of clarity coming to her that wasn’t there when she got the grave news that she was going to die, she is relieved that It’s finally here.

Someone knocks on the door that took lona’s attention from the letter. She welcomes the distraction especially when it was Drake who came in and smiled at her. He looks at his little fragile mate that he loves so much, he sits on the foot of her bed while looking at his mate still staring as if caught in a trance.

“I love you” lona suddenly says out of the Blue “I love the both of you”

“hmm, I know” a cocky grin on his face he leans to kiss her on the lips. The kiss was now sensual and gentle as if lona was going to break but she fought back with a passionate fervor that it surprised Drake. She runs her hands through his hair and suck on his lips.

She pulls back to breathe as she always tends to be the only one who breathes when she kisses either one of the two “I love you too. I’ve known it for a while now”

lona smiles “Good, because it would have been embarrassing if you didn’t say it back”

Drake kisses her jaw while pulling his mate in his arms and setting her down on his lap. Then let me mark you. Let us mark you”
