I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 824

I stared at my phone screen for a long time, hesitating to reply.

To be honest, I didn't want to. I had a feeling Horace was just looking for an excuse to see me. If I went and Steven found out, there was no telling what kind of ideas he'd get in his head.

Just then, my phone rang. It was Horace.

I hesitated for a moment before resolutely hitting the decline button.

Horace’s obsession was largely my fault. Perhaps if I kept my distance, he might slowly return to normal.

For the next few days, I used shopping as an excuse to go out, but I was actually visiting Steven to make sure he was eating properly. The pale pallor of his face had finally started to regain some healthy color.

Uncle Julian saw right through my excuses but said nothing. Ryan, however, couldn't sit still and insisted on coming with me, claiming he was just concerned about me.

"I know you're going to see *someone*. Can't I come with you? What, are you afraid I'll eat him alive?"

My right eye twitched. If Ryan hadn't said that through gritted teeth, I might have actually believed his excuse.

In the end, I had no choice but to bring him along. Uncle Julian had already had a word with him, so I trusted he wouldn't do anything too out of line.

But the moment we entered the hospital room, Ryan started looking for trouble. "Go on, eat up. Don't choke."

He sat by the bed, his eyes wide and practically shooting fire as he glared at Steven.

I knew this would happen.

Still, I couldn't really say anything, or Ryan would definitely accuse me of taking sides.

Steven calmly took a bite of his food before slowly looking up at him. "If I choke, you'll be out a brother-in-law."

I was speechless.
