I asked thoughtfully, “What did they talk about?”
Since Gordon brought it up himself, he would most likely tell me if I asked.
I was desperate to know what secret lay between Steven and Verna.
Gordon’s smile widened slightly. “Are you worried that Mr. Lancaster has feelings for Ms. Garcia?”
Before I could answer, he continued on his own, “Don’t worry, ma’am. Mr. Lancaster has never liked Ms. Garcia. In his heart, there’s only you.”
I wasn’t in the mood for that right now. “Just tell me what they talked about.”
Gordon chuckled. “Mr. Lancaster didn’t even see her. To be more precise, she couldn’t even get past the lobby doors. Not only that, but Mr. Lancaster blocked all her contact information.”
I frowned. “How do you know all this in such detail?”
Gordon gave a helpless smile. “To be honest, Ms. Garcia came to me, asking me to beg Mr. Lancaster to see her. She also told me some things I didn’t understand.”
I was instantly on alert. “What things?”
Seeing how tense I was, Gordon looked a bit puzzled but answered truthfully.
“She said things like Mr. Lancaster isn’t taking care of himself, and if he keeps going this way and doesn’t do something, it will be too late, and his end will be tragic. Something along those lines.”
“Verna was very unstable, shouting at me. I couldn’t understand what she was saying, something about disappearing.”
Disappearing?!
My heart skipped a beat. My body tensed, and my breathing grew shallow. “Was she talking about Steven?”
