"Elizabeth, is the guy in the radio talking to you?"
Evelyn Wu looked over at Elizabeth Liang somewhat confusedly, but her voice was weak and her face was quite pale.
Elizabeth, who didn't look so well either, was also bewildered. "Is he?"
"I heard him calling your name."
"Maybe you misheard him?" She was an orphan with no family, who would possibly be looking for her through the broadcast? And what, daddy's taking you home? "It's been years since my daddy last took me home..."
"Maybe." Evelyn nodded. "God, Elizabeth, I'm so tired from pooping I feel like I'm dying."
Elizabeth felt embarrassed. "I'm sorry Evelyn, it's all my fault."
There were a lot of leftovers from yesterday, so she brought them all to school and ate them with Evelyn after re-heating. But during the afternoon lectures, both of their stomachs were unfortunately defeated by the leftovers.
The diarrhea made them both convulse and vomit all over the place.
They had no choice but to go to the campus hospital. Seeing that they were about to collapse, the campus doctor immediately put them on drips.
"B*tch shut up," She gave Elizabeth a feeble glare. "It's all the weather's fault okay, it's too hot."
"I'm sorry anyway." Elizabeth felt awfully guilty. She looked at the clock on the wall and saw that it was already 7:30. She picked up her dead cellphone and sighed, wondering how angry James Lu would be.
The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became. She pulled up her blanket in frustration and said, "Well, let's just sleep first."
But less than five minutes after Elizabeth had closed her eyes, she heard a rush of footsteps from the corridor. The footsteps got closer and closer until they stopped in front of Elizabeth's bed.
Her eyes opened in confusion then immediately widened in surprise.
Why was James Lu here?
James frowned as he looked at Elizabeth's pale face on the hospital bed. Suppressing his irritation, he asked. "What happened?"
"Um..." She was too embarassed to say.
The campus doctor who accompanied James here began explaining with a smile, "Miss Liang and her friend are suffering from diarrhea caused by food poisoning."
"..." Elizabeth looked helplessly at the ceiling, as her originally pale face immediately turned red.
The doctor continued, "Cooked food is much more easily contaminated under this hot weather, which means it's much easier to get food poisoning. They couldn't stop throwing up when they just came, but the symptoms have relieved now that I've put them on a drip." "I see," James nodded, "please don't let me stop you from your work."
"Okay."
Evelyn watched from behind as the doctor left, then looked over at James who had suddenly appeared near her. She tried her best to not let her eyes burst into hearts from excitement. "Elizabeth, is he... was he looking for you in the radio?"
Elizabeth was still weak from the diarrhea, and she wasn't really listening to the broadcast just now. She still couldn't quite believe that James was standing before her. Was he really looking for her? To make her cook dinner?
"Urn... have you eaten?" Elizabeth pursed her lips. "I probably can't cook today..."
Hearing this, James glared at her menacingly. "Are you serious right now?" Although he was pretty hungry.
"Uh..."
Evelyn looked at the two of them suspiciously. They're being so weird to each other!
As a low-key celebrity stan and lover of hot guys, Evelyn immediately knew who he was. He often showed up in fashion and financial magazines, but she would've never expected to see him in real life. Evelyn was practically over the moon with disbelief!
Interestingly though, he seemed to be acquainted with Elizabeth. Could be possibly the "friend" that Elizabeth was staying with?
He was just joking with her, did she really take it seriously? Seeing that the menu changed every day, James had assumed that she just threw away any leftovers. Turns out she was bringing them to school all along.
How could someone be this stupidly naive?
"Would you jump off a bridge if I told you to? Do you know how to think for yourself?" James reached out his hand and wanted to knock her head to vent his anger, but when he saw her pale face, he turned his hand and flicked the drip bottle instead. "Not only did you hurt yourself, you also had to screw over your classmate. I'm so f*cking done!"
He remembered the doctor's words clearly, that the girl on the other bed also had diarrhea!
Hearing James's derogatory words, Evelyn couldn't help but speak for Elizabeth, "Well... I was the one who asked Elizabeth to bring lunch for me. She's blaming herself already, so please don't scold her like that."
James glared at Evelyn and ignored her. He asked Elizabeth, "When are you done?"
"Huh?" Elizabeth looked at him. "Are you waiting for me?" "Would you die if you didn't flatter yourself?"
Seeing that he had no intention to leave, Elizabeth ignored what he said and replied, "There's probably about thirty minutes left."
"Hmph!"
"If you don't want to wait for me, why don't you go first?"
James did not answer whether he'd wait for her or not. Instead he just said, "I need a smoke break." and went out.
Elizabeth watched as he left and smiled. His bark was always worse than his bite!
"Elizabeth, do you... live with James Lu?" Once James left, Evelyn couldn't hold back her curiosity anymore.
Elizabeth nodded gently. "Yeah."
"Wow..."
