"Ms. Yates, you're telling me that Wynn took down all those men by herself last night?" Marissa asked with wide eyes.
Tessa nodded. "That's right. Wynn's official title is my assistant, but she's actually my personal bodyguard, whom my father hired for me. She's very skilled at fighting."
Wynn was standing to the side at that moment, though her expression remained perfectly neutral.
Marissa looked at Wynn, surprise and disbelief flickering in her eyes. "That's amazing! She must be so strong! Where can I find a female bodyguard who's as awesome as she is? I'd like to hire one too."
"My father hired her from overseas," Tessa replied with a smile.
Marissa explained, "My family's bodyguards are all men, so it's a little inconvenient to have them following me at all times."
Tessa finally realized the oddity of last night's situation upon hearing her words. "That's right. Why were you alone at the bar last night? Where was your bodyguard?"
An uncomfortable expression appeared on Marissa's face. She mumbled, "If I tell you, will you beat me up?"
Tessa didn't have a clue what Marissa was talking about. "Why would I beat you up?" she answered, amused.
"I…" Marissa lowered her eyes, feeling embarrassed. "A friend of mine called me last night and told me that she saw Stevie at that bar. It's been hard to even catch a glimpse of him recently, so…
"As for my bodyguard, I don't usually have one with me when I leave the house."
Marissa snuck a glance to gauge Tessa's reaction when she was done explaining herself. "I… Although I am very grateful to you for saving me, I still want you to know that I'm serious about Stevie! He's the only one I've loved for all these years. I won't give up on him that easily!"
Tessa burst into a fit of laughter. "Actually, you don't need to tell me about what's going on between you and him," she said.
Marissa pursed her lips together and mumbled, "Maybe it's because you're the one who saved me, but I've been feeling this weird sensation in my chest. It feels like I'm wronging you for loving Stevie."
…
Marissa felt a lot better after having lunch. She packed up her things and changed into a fresh set of clothes before following Tessa to the police station.
The officers took Marissa's statement before bringing her to see the men who had drugged her the night before. She didn't recognize any of them.
One of the officers said, "We interrogated them for their motives, and they all answered the same thing. They did it because they were sexually attracted to you."
Marissa described the entirety of the situation to the officers from start to finish while they recorded her statement.
It was then that one of the men's phones started ringing. The officers had confiscated the thugs' phones but had left the devices switched on. The flashing name on the screen read "Mr. Shaw".
The officers connected the call, but they weren't even able to get a single word in before the man at the other end of the line beat them to the punch. "Where's the video?" he demanded in an urgent voice. "So much time has passed. Why haven't you sent me the video yet?"
