His Reluctant Luna novel Chapter 62

Lucian -

Being one of the few werewolves in a human high school had its advantages. I was stronger, with much better reflexes and keener senses than humans. I could have broken all sports records, but I refrained from using my full potential because it would have been unfair, secondly, I would have drawn unwanted attention, but that didn't stop me from being the best in the football team. Furthermore, I loved it.

It was the day before my 18th birthday. I was excited as well as nervous. For a werewolf, his or her 18th year is critical. After turning 18 our wolf is ready for its mate, and it starts searching. I would be able to find my soul mate from tomorrow onwards. She could be anyone. Someone from the pack, or school. I wished it was Nancy, my current girlfriend. She was the hottest girl in the school, and we clicked. If not Nancy, whoever would be my mate, I would love her. Whenever I found her.

"Hi, Savannah," I called out to one of my oldest and close friends as I was walking to my class. She was one of the few wolves in high school and two years junior.

"Hi Luc," she said, smiling." Excited about tomorrow?"

I chuckled.

"Kind of, I will be officially an adult tomorrow, so it's a big deal."

"You may also find your mate tomorrow." She quipped.

"Hopefully, but I am not bothered about that. I am just 18 I have ample time to find her." I replied.

"Hi Luc, I had been looking for you everywhere." Nancy, my curvaceous blonde girlfriend, arrived next to us and grabbed my arm.

"I have planned a wonderful birthday surprise for you...."

Nancy ranted on, and we walked off together, leaving Savannah.

It was my birthday. As the Alpha's son and the future Alpha of the pack, it was a big deal as it was my 18th birthday. The pack had arranged for a big party. I knew very well that some of them were pursuing this agenda because they were hoping that one of their female relatives would be chosen as my mate.

I had not imprinted on anyone yet. Not even Nancy, and suddenly, I had lost all interest in her. As if my wolf was forcing me to dump her.

The tinkling of laughter, subdued conversation and light music reached my ears as I reached the bottom of the stairs. I had turned towards the main ballroom where most of the guests congregated when I was halted by a familiar smell.

"Savannah! I almost didn't recognize you." I said, raising my eyebrow. She looked beautiful. Her red hair flowed around her in soft curls instead of her usual ponytail. She was wearing a lovely white dress and light makeup. She looked gorgeous.

"Wow! You look lovely," I said, smiling.

"Thanks," she replied coyly, which was weird. She had never behaved like this before.

"Alright, see you around. Enjoy the party." I said and started to move ahead.

"Wait, Lucian! You... Don't you feel something?" Her eyes had a frantic look.

"I am sorry, feel what?" I asked puzzled.

Her smile vanished," you don't feel anything? Nothing like wanting to stay with me?"

"I don't understand.....," suddenly it hit me. She was expecting me to imprint on her! She was 16, so she wasn't going to find her mate yet, but I could. I would know instantly if we were mates. My wolf was not bothered. He was bored and uninterested. My mate wasn't present at the party.

"Savannah, were you expecting us to be mates?" I asked softly.

She jerked her head up, her eyes brimming with tears.

"No, it's nothing like that." She replied.

"Savannah, I am sorry, it's not in my control." I was feeling wretched, I had no idea what to do? How to fix this. I had always considered her like my sister. There was no way I would date her just to break her heart later. She had a crush on me and I had no idea.

We never talked about that incident again, and things went back to normal. Two years later, on Savannah's 18th birthday, she had realized that I wasn't wrong. We weren't mates.

Current time -

Lucian

I raced through the vegetation, following my senses. Her scent was getting stronger. I found her. Looking down the edge of a small ridge. I saw her, my mate, baring her teeth at 2 wolves in a protective stance. Rick's daughter was cowering behind a rock. My first instinct was to help her, but I waited. She looked fierce, magnificent, strong. The first wolf attacked, she dodged and ripped the flank of the second wolf. He howled in agony.

"Alpha, we should help!" Damon said in my mind.

'No, I am not asking for a pardon. I want her to execute in front of the pack. She has betrayed you, me and the entire pack. Let her be an example to everyone.' I said.

'Spoken like a true Luna. She will be punished as per your wish,' Lucian replied.

'Alpha, we have tracked Savannah, she is running off towards the west. We also found the witch's body near an alter. She is dead.' One of the trackers informed us.

'Was she Regina ?' Lucian asked.

'Yes, she was indeed Regina. Savannah killed her in rage when the spell didn't work.' I replied.

'So, we have finally got rid of the witch.' Lucian said.

We ran through the woods. As we began getting closer towards the ceremonial circle, A group of wolves jumped on us.

I was thrown aside as a black figure dashed into me.

'Gregory!' I said.

Lucian was already on him. The two black wolves circled each other and grumbled slowly. Both of them seemed to be the same size, although Lucian looked leaner than Gregory. Slowly and tentatively, I stood back on my feet. There were no broken bones, but I would be carrying an ugly bruise later.

Lucian and Gregory rammed into each other. Lucian, being much more agile than Gregory, easily manoeuvred and jumped out of the way of the charging male and managed to rake a claw on his right side. Blood filled the air with a tangy scent. Gregory growled loudly at the fact that he'd been bloodied first. I watched with bated breath as both males began to wrestle together on the ground. Barks and howls rang out from both of them as claws and teeth found their marks on both of their bodies.

They seemed to take turns pinning each other to the ground, and then somehow they'd inch their way out from the other male and the fight would continue again. The smell of blood thickened in the air as the night drew on. I took down another of Gregory's beta, while Rick took down another. Our packs were still fighting through Gregory's wolves while the trackers looked for Savannah.

'Madam Alpha, we have tracked Savannah,' Peter said in my mind.

'Take me to her,' I replied and dashed off with Peter, followed by some betas.

A victorious howl announced that Lucian had taken down Gregory. His warriors would no longer attack us. They would have to submit to the new Alpha or die.

'I am going to catch Savannah,' I communicated to Lucian.

'I am following you, madam Luna,' Lucian replied, making me smile.
