His Plump Mate (by Buchanan) novel Chapter 447

Kaia POV

Sinclair and I are looking at our handiwork and trying to figure out why the new alarm system failed. We tested everything properly at setup, and there were no failures. It doesn’t make sense unless the system was tampered with, and that is exactly what we are looking for now.

“I found something,” Sinclair called. “Are you fucking kidding right now?”

When Sinclair starts cursing and talking to no one in particular, you know she has found something interesting and unexpected. Her eyes glaze over, and she is mind-linking with someone.

“What did you find, Sinclair?”

She looks at me, and her eyes look almost murderous. Yeah, she’s pissed. “Look at this. I’ve called Aiden and Thalia already.”

She steps aside, and I see a receptor box. Shit. No wonder she is upset. This is not going to be an easy fix.

“Who the hell put that there?” I asked.

“This wouldn’t be the work of rogues. What I want to know is how they managed to install it without setting off the triggers and alerts.”

She’s right. Tampering with the equipment would have sounded the alarms, yet it didn’t. We accounted for this as a possibility and tested for it.

“Did they access remotely? How could anyone get past our firewalls and proxies?”

“I don’t know, but now I am worried we may have a virus floating around and for who knows how long,” Sinclair said.

Thalia and Aiden walk up, and they immediately sense that something is wrong from our facial expressions.

“What happened?” Thalia asked.

Sinclair explains everything, and Aiden growls. “Who the fuck did it? Can’t we rip that thing out?”

“Not without alerting them that we did,” Sinclair said. Then I see Isaiah and Rodrigo walk up. Isaiah is carrying a laptop.

“Hey, here you go,” Isaiah said, and Sinclair took it, sat on the grass, and started clicking away at the keyboard.

She starts pulling up matrices of the pack’s infrastructure. Then starts running her own homegrown virus software. Everything comes up clean, and you can visibly see her breathe easier. She looked at everyone standing around her, and she blushed. Now that the threat is gone, she is realizing everyone is staring at her.

“I confirmed there are no viruses. I think this was a warning. I don’t know who is behind this, but it’s going to take me a while to figure out how to disconnect these triggers without alarming them.” Sinclair said.

Aiden, being the all-brawn and no-brains alpha for the moment, snarls, “I don’t give a shit. Rip it out.”

I step in, “Aiden, that wouldn’t be wise. Just because Sinclair didn’t find a virus doesn’t mean one can’t be deployed if we rip it out. We need to make sure there are no traps or triggers that can initiate that kind of action. Give Sinclair and me some time, and we will work through this and hopefully have answers by dinner.”
