Leo found it hard to believe. But in a moment, he calmed down.
He tentatively asked, “Do you remember the CEO?”
“The CEO? You mean Mr. Whitfield?” Agnes replied, her voice tinged with confusion.
Elton felt a sinking feeling in his stomach. Agnes had forgotten even the CEO? This was unbelievable. The saga between the CEO and Agnes over the years could fill a dramatic romance novel, the kind full of twists and turns that even a soap opera might shy away from. Amnesia? It was too incredible to grasp.
Even Leo felt a pang of sympathy, not just for Agnes, but for the CEO too. “So, what brings you here today?” he asked gently.
“I came to see Mr. Whitfield. Do you know where he is?” Agnes responded.
“I’m here to pack up some things for him,” Leo explained. “He’s at the hospital right now.”
Agnes frowned, “The hospital?”
Leo continued, “He had a fall down the stairs yesterday. By the time he came to the office today, his foot was swollen. By the afternoon, he couldn’t walk. He’s at the hospital now, but all his ID and documents are here, so I came to fetch them.”
Walking over, Leo explained, “I found Ms. Pritchard at the mansion. She came on her own, so I brought her here.”
Agnes stood there, gazing steadily at the man before her. In her mind, there was no recollection of him; it was a complete blank. She had only just learned his name from Elton. Yet, this man was her husband. It was a bizarre feeling—he was a stranger to her, yet to him, she was the most familiar person in the world.
Gathering her thoughts, Agnes approached and stopped in front of him. Taking a deep breath, she forced a smile, “Mr. Whitfield, could we talk?”
Mr. Whitfield? Jared looked at her, taken aback. It had been so long since he’d heard her call him that. Agnes was right in front of him, and he wanted nothing more than to pull her into a tight embrace. But here she was, using such a formal title. She truly had forgotten everything about him, forgotten everything they had shared. A wave of heartache washed over Jared.
