Jared felt like he couldn't catch his breath, the pain in his chest was overwhelming. He took a few deep breaths, trying to calm himself down. Suddenly, he heard a voice. It sounded like Agnes calling his name. Her voice was filled with desperation, like it was echoing from a distant place. The pain in his chest intensified.
Just then, Leo knocked and entered the room. Seeing Jared clutching his chest, he quickly rushed over, "Boss, are you alright?"
Jared didn't answer. Leo continued, "Should I take you to the hospital?"
Jared waved him off, took another deep breath, and finally managed to say, "I'm fine."
But he didn't look fine at all, and Leo was worried too.
"Boss, your health is important. You should really take a break. If Ms. Pritchard returns and sees you've been working around the clock again, she'll be upset."
Hearing Agnes's name felt like another blow to Jared's chest. Since last night, he had lost contact with her. Nate had reassured him it was just a signal issue and that it would be resolved soon, but Jared couldn't shake the feeling of unease.
He looked up at Leo, "Is the ship ready?"
A blurry video surfaced, filmed by a tourist in a nearby cabin. The footage was unclear, with no sound from outside, but intermittent gunshots could be heard. Despite the poor quality, the video was horrifying.
Jared saw the footage at the airport. Even though the faces weren't clear, he instantly recognized the two women who went overboard—Phenix and Agnes. In that moment, it felt like his heart stopped, his body froze, and his blood ceased to flow.
Since Agnes left for Australia, he'd had a gnawing sense of dread, and now it had become reality. It was like a sword had pierced right through him. Jared stood there for what felt like an eternity, the world spinning around him, as if everyone else had vanished.
"Agnes, how could you do this to me? How could you?"
