Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1123

Agnes saw right through those little schemes but pretended not to notice.

Esther and Sprague were quickly done with their meal. Setting down their forks, they announced, "We're stuffed. Time for a nap." And just like that, the two little rascals scampered off one after the other.

Watching their tiny figures dash away, Agnes and Jared couldn't help but chuckle.

Jared said, "What's the use in getting mad at kids? We'll teach them slowly. Esther's still young."

Agnes replied, "It was when I saw her fall out of that tree, I realized how dangerous it was. We have to break her of that habit."

Jared said, "Then why penalize her and not let our son have dinner?"

Agnes laughed, "Just look at all the things they've stashed away. I doubt our son will go hungry."

Jared conceded, "True. This will only bring the three amigos closer together. After all, they've shared hardships and stood up for each other."

Agnes confidently stated, "But our son won't eat it."

"Why not?" Jared asked.

A proud and content smile played on Agnes's lips as she said nothing.

Meanwhile, Esther and Sprague had dashed to the study. Upon entering, Sprague made sure to lock the door behind them.

Each child pulled out a small bowl from their embrace. Sprague said, "Nocturne, we've brought you something to eat. I've got fried shrimp."

Esther chimed in, "Nocturne, I brought you a lotus root cake. I saved it just for you because I couldn't bear to eat it myself."

Agnes knelt down, wiping away her tears, "Climbing trees is dangerous. Agnes is just worried about your safety."

"But the baby bird's nest fell down. If I didn't put it back, the mommy bird would be sad not seeing her baby," Esther sobbed.

Agnes replied, "Next time, if you see something like that, find an adult. Don't try to do it yourself when there's no adult around. Agnes also apologizes. You're a kind-hearted girl, Esther, but because you're still a child, you can't do dangerous things."

"Agnes, I'm sorry. Can we stop punishing Nocturne, please?"

Agnes nodded, "I've made a bowl of noodles. How about we take it to him together?"

Esther's tears turned into smiles instantly.
