Sprague really did end up staying.
Because Sprague just outright refused to go to school.
And Agnes had called in a few days off work to deal with it all.
They decided to just let it be for these few days.
Today was Memorial Day.
Agnes had also taken the day off with plans to visit the cemetery.
Preston Pritchard and Julia were buried together in the same plot.
When Julia passed away, Preston had bought a double plot, saying that when his time came, he wanted to be laid to rest beside her.
In the end, it was clear Preston still deeply loved Julia.
It's just a shame that in this world, love is always flawed in one way or another.
The three kids came along too.
Luckily, Nocturne had soaked in a medicinal bath that morning and could stay alert for the whole day.
After the tribute, the kids couldn't help but wander around nearby.
Agnes, however, stood by the gravestone, lost in thought.
Life is a cycle of cause and effect.
If it weren't for Laura...
Then she would probably still have her parents around, living in a happy home.
But there are no ‘ifs' in life.
Once something happens, it's because it was meant to happen for a reason.
What seems accidental might well be fated.
The good and the bad are all parts of life.
Though some hurt like countless knives to the heart, all you can do is accept them and wait for time to heal the wounds.
Jared could tell Agnes was feeling down.
After placing the chrysanthemums by the gravestone and bowing in respect, Elton turned back and said, "I know my arrival is unexpected, but I only recently found out Mr. Pritchard had passed. He treated me like his own son, so…"
With a slight smile, Agnes responded with a calm demeanor, "Thank you. My dad would have been comforted to know."
Elton gave a small smile, "Don't dwell on the sadness too much. Stay strong."
Agnes didn't say much.
Elton glanced at Jared beside her.
Then he said, "Mr. Whitfield, I'd like a moment alone with Agnes if you don't mind."
Jared frowned slightly but then told Agnes, "I'll go check on the kids."
As Jared walked away, Agnes asked plainly, "What did you want to talk about?"
Elton began, "Agnes, I've moved back to Willowbrook Town, planning to settle down here."
Agnes replied, "Mr. Taylor, where you decide to settle has nothing to do with me. Why tell me this?"
Elton explained, "Actually, it's because my father's health has been deteriorating over the years. We were living together in Chicago, but now they've decided to move back here for retirement. His health has gotten worse, but it was only after coming back that he heard about what happened to your family. It's shocking how much has changed in just a few years. Time truly changes everything."
