Gorgeous Couple’s Sweet Love novel Chapter 149

I hoped that she could grow up happily and have an ordinary and happy childhood in the future. But as a child of Benjamin, how can she be ordinary? Now I didn't know that Emy had more ambitions than her brother Ellis. She was unwilling to be mediocre, and she was more reluctant to marry a mediocre person.

She did a lot of things with my two nephews back in Ireland that were beyond my imagination. Even Benjamin had no way to contain her.

Well, Benjamin never could anyway.

She had her own thoughts and actions.

However, Emy was not an unreasonable girl. Her wisdom and her talents made many people admire her.

After Benjamin left, I didn't feel sleepy, so I simply got up and put on a delicate makeup to go to work.

The bodyguards that Diego mentioned were really good. At least... I hadn't noticed their existence until I parked my car at the gate of the company. There was a black MPV parked beside me. I stared at the car. Diego came over and explained, "They know how to keep their distance."

I smiled and said, "Thank you."

After arriving at the company, Diego said, "I'm in touch with Darren, so this time you might need to be there for dinner with him."

"Why are you still in touch with him?" I asked quizzically.

"We have a contract with him, but he asked me to meet you. I think he wants to talk to you about it personally."

"He's got some guts," I said.

Diego explained, "The company that Darren controls is not particularly powerful, but it is one of the top ones in this city. The government cares about what he thinks, more or less. Coincidentally, he bought the piece of land we need in advance from the government."

I asked with a frown, "What does he want to exchange a piece of land for?"

Diego hesitated for a moment and said, "He said he just wanted to make friends with you. He wouldn't deliberately keep the land."

"Does it mean that if I don't go to see him, he won't give the land to me?" I thought that Benjamin would not go home early in the evening, so I said to Diego, "Alright, I'll go.

Find a bottle of good wine."

"Yes, Madam," Diego replied.

After Diego left, I was confused. "Why would we need that piece of land, anyway?" I rummaged through the documents on my desk, which had the building construction layout on it. Coincidentally, the part of the land Darren held, was right at the entrance of the whole project. I was puzzled why Darren could get that piece of land without the Shears Group knowing about it.

And it happened to be in such a key position.

I didn't think too much about it. When I was dealing with the documents, Jeanie called me. She asked, "Do you want to come home for lunch?"

She knew I didn't go back to City B, so I asked curiously, "Is your dad at home? Did he cook or you?"

"It's just a few days before the winter vacation ends. I'll go to school next semester." Jeanie paused for a while and said, "I cooked it. Do you want to eat it or not?"

Jeanie's voice was quite loud. I smiled and said, "I'll be here in a minute. What would you like to eat?"

"Bring whatever you want to," she said.

After hanging up, I felt warm in my heart.

Although Jeanie was sharp with her words, she was really good to me.

At noon, when I returned to the neighborhood, I met Megan, the neighbor of my family. She put on a smile and asked, "Long time no see, huh?"

"Yeah, indeed," I said blandly. "You're really something now," she said. "I heard that your car is worth quite a few million, isn't it?"

I frowned, and she said with a smile, "You're rich now. Don't you think you are supposed to help out some of the old friends here? Say, why don't you start with my son? He's just lost his job. This must be"

Megan really made me feel funny. She used to gossip every single d*mn thing about me and now she was saying those words as if I owe her.

Megan was asking about Diego, who was personally chosen by Joel as an assistant. Both his appearance and temperament were excellent.

I was silent, and there was a trace of embarrassment on Megan's face.

Diego said, "Ms. Shears, is it okay that I set the meeting for the afternoon?"

As soon as I turned around and walked past Megan, I heard her ask in surprise, "You work for her?"

Diego followed after giving her an affirmative answer. When we got back to the apartment, my stepfather opened the door. He said with a delighted expression, "Jeanie has learned to cook a lot of things recently. She's the chef now."

I lowered my voice and said, "It's finally your turn to sit back and enjoy."

He said with a smile, "It was the right choice that she enlisted."

It was indeed a good thing, which had worn down Jeanie's temper.

Hearing the voice, Jeanie came out of the kitchen and put the dishes on the table. She said, "Em, I have something to discuss with you."

"What is it?" I asked curiously.

At the dinner that I was invited to by Darren, I had to drink a few glasses of wine before Darren arrived. The moment he arrived, he explained with a smile, "I'm sorry, I was caught up in the traffic."

Being caught up in traffic was always a good excuse.

"Did you bring the contract with you?" I asked casually.

Darren was stunned by my words. Then he laughed and said, "Come on, Ms. Shears. Since I said I would, I'd honor my promise."

The wine Diego brought was very strong. I leaned back lazily on the sofa and said, "Good." Darren sat opposite me and handed me the contract. He said, "All you need to do is sign it."

Diego handed the contract to me. I glanced at it and signed my name quickly. Darren smiled and said, "Diego said that you would like to talk about other cooperations with me?"

Other cooperations? Diego didn't mention it. It was just something Darren wanted. I closed my eyes and said, "Well, you can just tell my assistant what contracts you need. But we are taking sixty percent of the profit if you are okay with it."

A few days ago, he had said something similar to Benjamin.

"Ms. Shears!" Darren was shocked.

He said anxiously, "Why do you think you get to benefit more from this than I do? Wouldn't you say you are a bit too greedy?"

"Greedy? Do you think your little Marks family can do anything about it? Do you think that the companies in this city will ignore the existence of the Shears family because of something you want? Besides, I think you have heard that the Jenkins family is now under my control. Even if its headquarters is now in City B, I think you are a clever enough man to know what it can still do here in this city."

I raised my glass and took another sip. In a daze, I faintly heard Darren saying, "Since that's the case, then I don't think we need to cooperate at all. As for the land..."

I closed my eyes and smelled the aroma of the wine. "What of it? Didn't I sign the contract already? It's mine now."

"You'd better not push this too far!" He said angrily.

"You can take it back. Just remember to pay the compensation."

I looked at Darren's ashen face and smiled faintly. I handed him a glass of wine and said, "Pissed off already? I was just kidding with you. I'm not a rogue or anything. Of course, we're gonna go 50/50. You can talk to my assistant about whatever cooperation or anything else you wanna talk about."

I paused and said with a smile, "I'm just a woman. My assistant runs the company, to be completely honest with you."

Hearing that, Darren smiled and drank up the wine in his cup. He said, "You're always a straightforward person. It's just that you mess around too much."

I laughed but didn't reply.

Diego helped me up to leave. My head was spinning as I reminded him, "Be careful when working with that Darren. Also, find a chance to bring him down."
