Gorgeous Couple’s Sweet Love novel Chapter 148

It was easier said than done. There were the families in my way. As long as they were still in City B, this crime they committed would never come to light.

"The process will take a long time," I said, my voice laced with dejection suddenly.

Riley looked up at the dusty sky in the distance and said in a slightly confused tone, "The truth will never be destroyed."

"Sooner or later, there will be a result." I took a breath and asked softly, "How is Charlotte recently?"

"She was originally in prison in the suburbs, but after being locked up for two years, she became more and more insane. She was brought back here a while back. There's gonna be another psychiatrist assigned to her. If she is confirmed to be mentally ill, she will be sent to a psychiatric hospital for treatment."

Riley took out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it up. He took a deep breath and said, "There's something I need to remind you. Someone is trying to get here out of here, someone very powerful."

I asked in surprise, "Riley, what do you mean?"

Riley flicked the cigarette and explained, "They wanted to get Charlotte out of prison, so they spared no effort to get her back to the police station for a recheck. If she's really got a mental illness after the diagnosis, they can spend a sum of money to take her away to the psychiatric hospital."

"How do you know this?" I felt confused and said, "In fact, I had guessed that Charlotte had a mental problem two years ago, but... I hated her at that time, so I covered this up. I'll admit that I was affected by my own selfishness. But this time, the psychiatrist is sure going to find her haywire."

"That's also my guess." Riley's eyes flashed, and he said with a smile, "She happened to be in the police station. You can go and see her."

Riley paused for a while and said, "Charlotte is quite normal, but she will go crazy once your name is mentioned."

Charlotte regarded me as her biggest enemy in her heart.

I suddenly lost interest and said, "Since someone wants to let her go, she will definitely appear in front of me again."

That being the case, I might as well wait for her to come to me.

After I left the police station, I said to Diego, "Get me some bodyguards, the best ones you can find."

Puzzled, Diego asked, "Why?"

"Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. I have to be careful with every step I take now." I was silent for a moment before adding, "You should know Teresa. She's a real pain in the a*s. She's very... vindictive when it comes to me. She used to bully me in whatever way she wanted."

If my guess was correct, the person that Riley was referring to should be Teresa. But why did Riley know that someone was trying to save Charlotte?

Vaguely, I felt that things were very complicated.

"Mr. Shears told all your things to five assistants, including me," he said. He always referred to Joel as Mr. Shears. Then, Diego explained, "Mr. Shears has been training us from five years ago."

I suddenly remembered what Joel said. He told me not to worry about taking over the family because he had trained many assistants for me.

I asked Diego curiously, "So from five years ago, you knew that I would take over the family business sooner or later?"

Diego shook his head. "Although the sole purpose of our existence was to solve difficulties, we're still part of the family even either you or Mr. Shears leaves. The five of us have signed contracts for life with the Shears family."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"The Shears family promised to give us a very high annual salary and a car plus a house in City B, and we need to serve the family for a lifetime... In fact, this statement is too absolute, but as long as the Shears family stands, we stand with it."

"Joel is quite considerate of me," I said with a smile.

"You don't have to worry yourself too much," said Diego, "We hold all the information of the family. Naturally, we will be able to share all of your burdens. Our main task is to make sure that you enjoy your life, rather than having to hustle about it."

"If I really take over the family, that is my obligation."

Joel arranged everything for me, as well as... I asked, "What game did Joel set for the Dunns, Solanges, and the Heaneys?"

"Ms. Shears, out of professional ethics, I need to keep it a secret for the time being. You will know when you take over the business."

Joel really did a good job keeping that secret.

But I knew it was his way to tempt me to go back to the Shears family. I wearily closed my eyes and said, "Joel is so thoughtful and cautious. Maybe we will work together for a long time in the future."

Diego replied, "You will understand why he did all this very soon."

"Right," I replied, and Diego added, "The bodyguards will be here before 10 p.m."

"Well, let's go back to Elysia now."

Diego sent me to Elysia and left. When I returned to the apartment, I felt very tired and simply fell down and slept.

I couldn't remember when Benjamin returned home. I could only smell the faint scent of alcohol. I opened my eyes and looked at him in a daze for a long while. He was rubbing his lips against my cheeks.

"Did you drink?" I asked as I cradled my arms around his neck.

Benjamin stretched out his hand to pinch my cheek and explained, "With Darren. He thought he was playing me like a fool and has no idea his company is falling apart. What an idiot."

The tone of Benjamin was very disdainful. I smiled and said, "Don't say that. At least he thinks he is smarter than anyone else."

Benjamin's eyes dimmed and he asked, "You don't want to?" "I do. I am very happy that you said all these," I said.

I was glad that he really fell in love with me.

Benjamin said, "That's settled then."

Benjamin bowed his head and kissed my lips. Then he got up and went into the bathroom. After coming out, he held me in his arms.

In the middle of the night, I woke up because I had to pee, but I opened my eyes and did not see Benjamin. I reached out to touch his side of the bed and found it was cold. I got up and went outside.

The lights in the study were on. I went to open the door and saw Benjamin. He bowed his head slightly and tapped on the keyboard.

I sat beside him and asked, "What are you doing?"

"Modifying the proposal, and it will be used next week," he answered.

"There's no hurry. Let's go to bed."

"Actually, there's all the hurry."

You show the world your brightest appearance and do the dirty work behind the scene, even if it was Benjamin, it was still the same. I stayed with him for ten minutes, and he said, "Go to sleep. I'll be back very soon."

Hearing this, I got up obediently and went to the bathroom. Then I sat down beside him and said coyly, "I'll just sit here. I won't make a sound."

Benjamin's brows twitched. He pursed his lips and said, "You don't need to make a sound to distract me."

I was silent, and he sighed helplessly.

It was almost dawn when Benjamin finished modifying the proposal. He took me back to the bedroom and took a nap for an hour before he left in a hurry.

It was not until this moment that I realized what Victoria said, that it was really not easy for Benjamin to start a business.

There was a half month between Emy's and Ellis's birthdays. It was about Ellis's seventh birthday. He was in fourth grade. If it went on like that, he would be in junior high by the time he was ten.

Ellis and Anthony were both extraordinary kids.

Then what about my Emy?
