Chapter 1647 Relying on Others? [Bonus]

[Bonus thanks to Bryson_Clark :) ]

Sylas exhaled a breath, his body heat having reached a level that would have been incomprehensible to him in the past. The air practically boiled, what water vapor was left in it from the misted rivers and lakes being erased from existence in blooming puffs of steam that vanished as quickly as they were formed.

He wasn't the sort that liked to rely on others. As nice as the ranking system sounded, he wasn't a fan.

Even if he got first twice over, something that seemed very possible now, how would the rest go? What if Elbrum decided to change the rules on a whim like he already had?

No.

If there was an opportunity to decide the outcome without reaching the end, then he was always going to take it. When he sensed the change in his Primus Imperium Crown, he knew that he had found the answer to the question he was looking for.

As arrogant as he was, Sylas knew he had his limits. Trying to manipulate the formations crafted by The Sanctum even the smallest measure had left him knocked out for almost a week. There was only so much he could do with his current strength, even with the Runeweaver Eyes to rely on.

And even if he could magically up his strength for a short moment, he didn't have the knowledge or skill to execute it. His Rune Mastery might have left all those on the outside in awe, but Sylas himself felt like he had too far to go still.

He was limited in what he could accomplish, especially when it was larger, stronger, and more complex Runes and Rune meshes in question.

This time, though... he had gotten lucky.

For some reason, his Crown reacted based on the reaction of the crowd outside. He had felt it grow stronger, as though his feats were improving it.

Sylas didn't believe that this was solely because of the Primus Imperium Title alone, but instead a special reaction it was having along with his Champion Will.

It was as the little girl had said. Champion Will was momentum incarnate. The more you succeeded, the more likely you were to succeed again. Feats built atop feats and suddenly the world felt like it was all falling your way.

It was the same concept as dynasties in sports. Those watching from the outside always felt like luck constantly fell the way of these dynasties. The referees were on their side, the lucky bounces were on their side, the sports gods themselves were on their side... When in reality, it was little more than preparedness meeting opportunity.

Champion Will was more real than that, more tangible. And like the little girl had said, Primus Imperium was nothing more than an attempt to recreate the prowess of Champion Will artificially, something the current system and systems of the past had formed as a way to leverage this legendary ability.

In fact, Sylas was personally of the opinion that Champion Will was deeper than that, tied to things like Luck, Will, and Karma...

And he had just proven it.

And he had also seen through something else at this moment.
