Genetic Ascension novel Chapter 1429

The Glyphspire Crucible was one of the rewards that Sylas received from his Quest in the Milky Way. Its abilities were still a bit vague to him, and though he had paid the little girl for an explanation, what he had gotten out of it wasn't as sharp and detailed as he would have liked.

According to the little girl, the Glyphspire Crucible was almost like a portal lab of sorts. Though it was called a Legacy Treasure, there wasn't an actual Legacy within it, because the point of its existence was to experiment and use it to craft a new Legacy.

Essentially, the Crucible, though it just seemed to be a small thimble, was actually like the clone of a body. You could map it onto the aspects and details of yourself, then play with the Layers of your body on it first to understand what paths would be best suited for you, what could work well, and what wouldn't work well.

Once things were perfected and everything was set in stone to your liking, or once the Glyphspire Crucible had run out of resources to change or be manipulated any more, then the Crucible could be absorbed into the body.

Once this happened, it could instantly graft what changes you caused to it onto your body, allowing the changes that took place to happen within yourself.

This way, you could skip all of the risks and problems associated with experimenting on your body. It was essentially Sylas' path toward having a Vipermancy Profession for himself, though with extra steps.

The trouble with the Crucible, though, was that it wasn't perfect—though nothing was.

The Crucible wasn't a perfect reflection of the body, and it wasn't easily able to account for things that made Sylas different. For example, if Sylas started creating a Legacy with the Serpent as a foundation, the Crucible would never be able to incorporate the Ape after the fact.

The Crucible could never account for the fact that Sylas' Will was broken compared to other F-tiers and that he could withstand the clashing of two different Beast Wills within himself.

This was just one example, but one could imagine that this could be repeated in all sorts of ways. The Crucible was also unable to replicate things like the Sin Seeds, or even Sylas' Spark Seed for that matter either.

It was highly limited and highly specialized in what it could do. It was useful, but Sylas really had no reason to use it until now.

Originally, Sylas thought of using it as a shortcut to comprehend his Archon Casting abilities and perfect his Spark Seed. Although to normal people, Time and Space didn't mix, that was obviously not the case in real life. The Crucible might be able to succeed because of that if Sylas manipulated some things.

But in the end, Sylas realized that if he relied on an external item for a comprehension like that, he would never be able to escape the system in the end.

So, the Crucible had sat there for a long while, collecting dust despite its shocking value until Sylas cleared the Abyssal Cathedral and gained a new treasure.

Sylas wanted to be able to use his Crucible to reforge the foundation of his body. If he could manage to find a worthy Legacy, then the weakness of his flesh especially could be turned around.
