First things first.
A bikini and sunglasses are absolute must-haves.
Not to mention flip-flops, a wide-brimmed hat...
Anthea listed the items she needed to buy on her phone as she walked along.
"Anthea!"
A pleasant male voice suddenly called out from behind her.
Anthea turned slightly and saw Baldie approaching her.
Baldie hadn't expected to run into Anthea here today.
He had scored an impressive 688 on his SATs and had already received an acceptance letter from Apex Ascent College.
Baldie now regretted not carrying that acceptance letter with him. It would have been the perfect opportunity to show it to Anthea and confess his feelings for her.
Even without the letter, he felt he couldn't wait any longer to express his feelings.
"Anthea," Baldie jogged up to her side.
"What's up?" Anthea's look was casual as ever.
"I scored 688 on my SATs and got accepted into Apex Ascent College," Baldie shared eagerly.
"Oh, congrats," Anthea responded, her expression unchanged.
Baldie paused, taken aback.
Why was Anthea so nonchalant?
688!
Ranked 89th in the entire city!
Out of the tens of thousands of SAT takers in Cloudcrest, how many could boast such a score?
Anthea must be pretending!
Yes, that's it!
She didn't want to seem inexperienced or naive in front of him.
Even though Baldie was convinced Anthea was putting on an act, he felt she was overdoing it.
Even if she had shown surprise, he wouldn't have thought any less of her.
After all, they were no longer in the same league.
"Anthea, didn't you take the SATs too? How did you score?" Baldie inquired.
Without looking up from her phone, Anthea casually said, "749."
749?
Baldie was speechless!
Anthea sure knew how to boast!
Baldie was confused.
Anthea's lips curled slightly, "Sorry, this 'middle schooler' doesn't match up with you."
He knew Anthea wouldn't reject him, Baldie responded, "Even though your education level is a bit low, I don't mind."
Just then, a news segment started playing on the big screen behind them in the shopping mall.
"Let's introduce this year's SAT valedictorian from Cloudcrest, Anthea! A local of Cloudcrest, nineteen years old, she achieved the best result in Cloudcrest in the last decade with a score of 749!"
"Hello, everyone. I'm Anthea."
Hearing the familiar voice, Baldie thought he had misheard. He looked up and saw on the screen, the interviewed person was all too familiar.
Was that really Anthea?
It actually was Anthea!
Baldie stood frozen, a cold sweat breaking out down his back.
In his wildest dreams, he hadn't imagined Anthea could become the valedictorian.
Nor had he thought Anthea was actually a senior high school student.
It turned out everything Anthea had said was true.
He felt like a complete fool.
Just a moment ago, he was prideful about his 688 score.
