From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 66

Chapter 66 The Shadow in the Hallway

Late at night, the sound of heavy, rhythmic footsteps…

The mere thought of it was enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.

Jade’s hair stood on end, her heart hammering against her ribs like a frantic drum.

She swallowed hard, clutching the gift box as she quickened her pace.

She didn’t just walk; she bolted toward the safety of the apartment. As she reached the door, her fingers trembling over the smart lock.

A powerful hand lunged from the shadows and clamped around her wrist.

Thud-

She was slammed violently against the cold, hard wall.

Before she could scream, a hand caught her chin, forcing her to look up.

“Jade, visiting another man’s home and taking gifts from his parents? Do you even remember you’re Mrs. Walter?”

The searing pain in her jaw made the color drain from Jade’s face instantly.

She stared at the bloodshot, wild eyes of the man before her-Hudson Walter.

“You’ve been stalking me?”

Hudson let out a dark, mirthless laugh, his grip on her jaw tightening.

“If I hadn’t followed you, how would I know you were bold enough to go to a man’s home? Jade, we aren’t divorced yet. Do you take me for a fool, doing this so publicly?”

Jade groaned from the pain, but a sharp, mocking laugh escaped her lips anyway.

“So I visit a home, and you automatically assume the worst? Your mind is truly filthy, Hudson.”

It was the harshest thing she’d ever said to him. Hudson’s eyes filled with shock and fury.

“You’re calling me filthy?”

“Isn’t it the truth?”

Jade found the strength to shove him away, her voice dripping with ice.

“You and Amara have been pawing at each other in front of me for weeks. Can I even compare to that?”

Her words were like a jagged blade, cutting deep into Hudson’s ego.

The stinging pain left him momentarily speechless before he blurted out.

“Amara and I are different.”

“Oh? How so?” Jade challenged him.

“When you were holding her, did you remember your wedding vows? When you snuck off to see her abroad and lied to me just to celebrate her birthday at the lounge, were you thinking about your wife?”

The contempt on her face only grew as she continued.

“I visit an elder and you call it ‘blatant’? Then what do you call moving your mistress into our home, letting her kid call you ‘Daddy,’ and letting her wear my silk pajamas in our marriage bed? Is that just ‘incidental adultery’?”

Hudson’s face turned as dark as a thundercloud at her scathing words.

“I told you, nothing happened! I’ve explained it a dozen times, but you refuse to listen.”

“Explained?”

Jade shook her head, a self-deprecating smile on her lips.

“You didn’t give me a chance to explain anything just now. You went straight to accusations. Hudson, have I ever actually been worthy of respect in your eyes?”

Hudson bit out, “I have never disrespected you.”

Jade felt a wave of profound exhaustion wash over her at his flat, dismissive tone.

It wasn’t just today. For three years, Hudson had never actually heard a word she said.

Her deepest emotions were always brushed aside as if they were nothing.

As if her entire existence was too insignificant to be taken seriously by him.

Jade had been an emotional wreck for days, and now that she’d found a shred of peace, she didn’t want to waste another second arguing.

“Whatever you say, Hudson.”

With those words, she turned and headed for Jewell Ford’s door.

But Hudson yanked her back in an instant, his voice low and dangerous.

“What is your relationship with Anthony Mitchell? Is he the one you ‘care’ about?”

“We’re getting divorced. My private life is none of your business.” She shook him off.

Hudson grabbed her wrist again, hauling her into his chest and pinning her there.

“Jade, do you have to be this difficult?”

Jade kicked and fought, but his grip was like iron. Finally, she leaned down and bit his arm.

Hudson let out a muffled grunt and let go. Jade scrambled away, glaring at him.

“Can you just be a rational human being for once? Stop this!”

Hudson froze, the words sounding strangely familiar.

“Sound familiar?”

Jade asked, her eyes boring into his.

“That’s exactly what you’ve been saying to me since Amara moved in. I’m just asking for the same courtesy.”

Hudson stepped forward, his hands clamping onto her shoulders.

“Jade, you know me. If I were actually sleeping with Amara, I’d tell you. If I say we’re clean, it means nothing happened. We are perfectly innocent.”
