She bit her lip hard, her nails digging into her palms, trying to shove the choked sobs and the piercing pain back down her throat. Her chest ached with the effort to breathe.
She was such a fool. Truly pathetic. How did it take her this long to realize Hudson never felt a single thing for her…
And how could she have been so naive to think that a man who saw her as a tool would ever return her love?
Jade left the chapel area in a daze.
Her soul felt detached from her body, like a ghost wandering the earth.
Vibrate-
Her phone went off.
Jade looked down; it was Jewell.
“Jewell…”
The moment she picked up, she broke into a ragged sob.
“I’m at… I’m at Mount Cloudpeak. Can you… can you come pick me up?”
She hadn’t driven; she’d taken a cab here.
And she was glad she hadn’t, because in this state, she would have crashed the car.
“Okay, I’m coming.”
Jewell’s voice sounded over the phone as she moved.
“Just cry. Stay right there and wait for me. Don’t do anything until I get to you.”
Jade sniffled, her voice muffled.
“Okay.”
Hanging up, she sat down in a nearby gazebo, waiting quietly for Jewell.
She stroked her abdomen. Thinking of her unborn child, her nose stung again, and tears blurred her vision once more.
But she didn’t let them fall this time. She tilted her head back, stubbornly forcing them back.
“Don’t cry
“Don’t drop another single tear for Hudson Walter. He isn’t worth it.”
Beep beep-
A car horn sounded nearby.

Chapter 59 The Great Escape
Jade looked up; Jewell had arrived.
Startled, she stood up and walked toward the roadside.
Jewell jumped out of the car and grabbed her hands, looking frantic.
“Jade! What happened? Are you okay?”
Jade asked, “How did you get here so fast?”

“I was worried sick! You sounded so bad on the phone I thought something terrible happened. I ran every red light to get here.”
A wave of warmth flooded Jade’s chest. She felt a spark of life return as she squeezed Jewell’s hand back.
“I’m okay. Let’s just get out of here. I’ll tell you everything in the car.”
Jewell moved to open the passenger door.
“Right.”
Jade bent down to get inside.
As she reached to pull the door shut, it hit an obstruction.
She looked up. A hand with prominent knuckles was gripping the door. The veins on it were bulging with a terrifying sense of power.
It was Hudson.
Jade’s heart seized. She looked up and saw his dark, brooding face, radiating an aura of an approaching storm.
“Get out.”
Jade’s face turned pale, her hands gripping the door handle.
“No.”
But her strength was no match for Hudson’s.
Hudson kept increasing the pressure until Jade’s knuckles turned white from the effort.
Slam-
The door was wrenched open by Hudson. Jade’s grip failed, and before she could react, she was hauled out of the car.
“Jade!”
Jewell rushed out from the driver’s seat. Seeing Hudson pinning Jade to his chest in that possessively aggressive stance, she immediately frowned.
“Mr. Walter, if you have something to say, say it like a civilized person. You’re scaring her.”
“This is family business.”
