“Hudson, the only thing I want is a divorce!”

“I don’t agree!”

Bloodshot veins filled Hudson’s eyes.

“Jade, I’ve told you-from the day you married me, you became a Walter. As long as I don’t let go, you’re not going anywhere.”

“Why? Hudson, what is the point of all this?” Jade couldn’t break free, and her barely settled emotions were back on the edge of a

breakdown..

“If you’re worried that John will kick Amara and her daughter out after we divorce, then… I’ll go beg him. I’ll make him agree to let them stay…”

She grabbed Hudson’s arm, sounding like she had run out of options, her voice thick with pleading.

“If I can get John to promise me that, will you sign the papers? Please?”

Hudson’s jaw was a hard line, and the veins on the arm around Jade bulged, a sign of either restraint or repressed fury.

“I said, I don’t agree.”

Jade’s tears flooded over again, her eyes stinging from the salt.

“By what right?”

She was truly out of moves, clenching her fists to hammer against his chest.

‘In our three years of marriage, I never did anything to wrong you, did I? Why are you treating me like this? Why won’t you let me go? Are you only going to be happy when you’ve finally driven me to my grave?”

Hudson let her hit him, standing perfectly still, his posture never shifting an inch.

‘If hitting me makes you feel better, then keep hitting.”

After an unknown amount of time, Jade was exhausted, her body limp, with only her eyes still moving.

Hudson pulled her into his arms and carried her into the meditation chapel inside.

‘Grandpa, where’s the water?”

John looked up, his gaze sweeping over Jade and Hudson, and he let out a heavy, weary sigh.

‘Help Jade onto a chair.”

Hudson followed the order, and John poured a glass of water, handing it to Jade.

“Jade, have some water”

Jade’s voice was painfully raspy.

Chapter 56 Give Me a Way Out

“Thank you, Grandpa.”

Hudson moved to step closer, but John waved him away with clear annoyance.

“Go outside. I need a private word with Jade.”

“Grandpa.”

Hudson looked anything but reassured.

“Don’t-”

“Get out!”

John pointed toward the door, his tone sharpening.

“Is your pride so high now that your grandpa’s words don’t mean a thing anymore?”

Hudson looked toward Jade with a flash of hesitation.

“Jade, I’ll be right outside.”

Jade didn’t answer him, keeping her head down as she drank, acting like she didn’t even want to look at him.

For the first time, Hudson felt the sting of being ignored, his heart feeling like it was being squeezed by a heavy hand, sour and aching.

“Why are you still standing there?”

John snapped at him.

“Out! Now!”

Hudson walked away with heavy steps, but before he left the chapel, he couldn’t help but look back at Jade.

Jade’s head was still lowered, looking as if she didn’t care whether he stayed or left.

He pressed his lips into a hard line, swallowing the rising tide of displeasure, and strode out of the chapel.

“Jade,” John said, sitting down beside her.

“Tell me the truth. Is it because Hudson brought Amara into the house? Have you been mistreated, and that’s why you want out?”

Jade set the glass down gently on the table and looked at John, her voice soft.

“Grandpa, it’s not just that. Three years ago, I begged you to let me marry Hudson because I thought if I worked hard enough, t could change him. But reality proved that love isn’t something one person can fix alone. After everything, I’ve realized that rather than forcing ourselves together, it’s better to part. It’s better for both of us.”

John caught a glimpse of a black sleeve through the crack of the door.

He snorted inwardly, looked at Jade’s gentle face, and offered a soft word of advice.
