“It wasn’t me,” Rosa explained. “Mr. Walter called me at noon looking for you. I told him you were out working, and he said you needed to call him back the second you got home.”
“Got it…”
Jade could easily guess that Hudson was calling to lay down the law and order her not to clash with Amara.
She wasn’t in any rush to call back, so she tucked the phone back into her purse.
Emily scoffed, irritated by her attitude.
“Hudson told you to call him! What the hell are you dragging your feet for?”
Jade knew that talking back would only trigger an endless lecture from her mother-in-law.
So she simply said, “I’ll call him when I get upstairs.”
Having nothing else to pick on, Emily waved her hand dismissively in annoyance.
“Then go already!”
Jade turned and headed up the stairs. She was still debating whether to return the call when Hudson’s call came in first.
Jade swiped to accept. There was a brief silence on the other end before Hudson’s freezing, accusatory voice pierced her ear.
“Where have you been? Why has your phone been off all day?”
Jade countered him.
“Did you need something urgent?”
Before he could answer, she continued.
“If you’re calling because you’re worried I’ll bully Amara, let me assure you: I will steer clear of her. If she’s in a room, I won’t be there. Does that make you feel better?”
Her words completely jammed Hudson’s throat, leaving him speechless.
After a heavy ten-second pause, his usually calm voice sounded noticeably ruffled,
“You better keep your word.”
Then, he hung up.
Jade didn’t care. She knew he had spent his entire day stressing over Amara.
It wasn’t a surprise at all.
She tossed her phone and bag onto the bed.
Hearing footsteps behind her, she turned around to find Emily.

Chapter 33 The Ultimatum
“Did you need me for something, Emily?”
Emily’s sharp eyes swept over the guest bedroom.
“Did you ask to sleep in separate rooms?”
For a moment, Jade didn’t know how to respond.
Emily’s interrogation followed relentlessly.

“If you keep this up, when are you and Hudson ever going to have a baby? Back then, you were practically begging to marry him. You need to step up and give the Walter family an heir! Otherwise, how will we answer to our ancestors?
“How much money do you even make at that job? A few thousand a month, tops? What, is the Walter family mistreating you? Do you really need to go out and embarrass yourself with some unpresentable gig?
“If you ask me, instead of wasting time on that, you should be figuring out how to get pregnant. You’ve been married for three years, and your belly is still flat. Who knows if there’s something wrong with your body!”
Every word was uglier than the last.
Jade knew Emily looked down on her. Over the past three years, she had endured countless insults.
She used to swallow it all for Hudson’s sake, but not anymore.
“I married into the Walter family. I didn’t sell my soul to it. Whether I work or not is my own business.”
Jade retorted, her face taut.
“Besides, didn’t Hudson tell you on the phone that he doesn’t want a child with me? Why should I have a baby just to become his burden? What’s the point?”
“You…”
Emily’s face twisted in extreme anger, but she was left speechless.
She was so used to Jade’s submissiveness that this sudden clapback caught her completely off guard, leaving her unsure how to handle the sharp tongue,
Jade spoke again,
“Emily, what Rosa told me the other day-you put her up to it, didn’t you? My stance hasn’t changed. I’m divorcing Hudson. He doesn’t love me, and I’m done forcing it.”
Emily looked like she was about to spit blood.
“You… everything was perfectly fine! But the second Amara moves in, you demand a divorce? If word gets out, what will people think of Amara?”
