“If I ever hear those words from your mouth again, you’re on the next flight back to Faronne.”
Katherine let out a faint sigh, risking his wrath to say what needed to be said.
“Sir, there’s a saying here: one lie requires a thousand more to sustain it. You need to tell her the truth before-”
“I said shut it!” Bastian roared, his voice shaking with a rare, cold fury.
“Get out of my sight. Now.”
Katherine ducked her head and turned to leave, but stopped dead as she saw a figure in the doorway.
“Ms. Merchant…”
At the name, Katherine looked back at Bastian.
The man who could face a hail of bullets without blinking was now visibly shaken, bolting upright from the sofa.
Bastian had no idea how much of the conversation Jade had overheard.

He took a breath and searched her face.
“Are you finished? What would you like for dinner?”
Jade didn’t seem to notice anything; her tone was perfectly normal.
“Anything. I’m not really hungry.”
Bastian grabbed his phone. “I’ll order something.”
He moved toward the door, giving Katherine a sharp look to follow him out.
Jade watched them go, her eyes blinking slowly.

She pushed the thought aside and grabbed a bottle of strawberry juice from the fridge.
Looking through the glass facade of the studio, she saw two figures approaching.
One of them was unmistakable: Amara Hoyt.
Jade knit her brows, set her juice aside, and walked to the door to meet them.
“What are you doing here?”
Amara tilted her chin up. Her friend, Ivy, stepped forward with an arrogant smirk.
“Hudson is about to propose to Amara. She wanted to come by and thank you. If you hadn’t moved out of the way, they wouldn’t be able to finally be together.”
Hudson was proposing to Amara?
Jade was stunned for a second, but then it made perfect sense.
It was inevitable, wasn’t it?
But if Hudson loved her that much, why had he fought so hard to keep Jade trapped for three
years?
The cycle was starting again, but this time, Jade was a spectator.
A cold, mocking laugh bubbled up in her chest.
Are these two really using me as a prop in their little love story?
Amara saw Jade’s silence and assumed she was heartbroken. Her smile widened.
“Jade, you were a witness to our history. I’m sure you’ll be happy for us, right?”
Jade’s annoyance flared. She let out a sharp, biting laugh.
“If you’re this happy to pick up the trash I threw out, then congratulations. You two deserve each other-a broken pot for a broken lid.”
Amara’s smile didn’t falter, but Ivy snapped back immediately.
“You’re just bitter! You’re jealous that Amara has the man you could never keep! Jealousy is a
