His knuckles were white as he ground out a few words through his teeth.
“We aren’t divorced!”
The nurses exchanged a look that said ‘That’s even worse.’

But seeing the terrifying look on his face, they didn’t dare say more. They scurried away, though they kept throwing judging looks over their shoulders.
Hudson took a deep breath, a burning pain flaring in his heart.
Was this how she talked about him?
Did she really think so little of him that she wouldn’t even give him a single good word?
In truth, Hudson was wrong. Jade was so sick of his name she never mentioned him at all.
The person who had spread the story was Jewell Ford.
In the thirty minutes Jade was in surgery, Jewell had made sure every member of the staff knew exactly what kind of ‘hero’ Hudson Walter was. She was determined to make him pay in the only way she could-by making him a pariah in the eyes of everyone in that hospital.

“Sir, we have word. Ma’am took Foster’s jet back to the city.”
Hudson didn’t move. He suddenly asked a question that caught Kevin off guard.
“Am I really that bad to her?”
“Uh…”
Kevin froze. It was a loaded question if he’d ever heard one.
He coughed nervously, looking at his shoes.
“I… I wouldn’t say that, sir.”

“Back to Kingston.”
Kevin nodded and followed.

Jade’s amber eyes softened, and for a moment, the old light returned to them.
“Thank you. I’m okay now.”
in that moment, Julian felt a sudden, powerful urge to reach out and kiss her eyes.
But he restrained himself, looking away as he stepped toward the car.
“It’s getting late. We should head back.”
Jade didn’t know what was going through his head. She bowed deeply toward the headstone.
She stayed like that for a long time before straightening up and looking at Julian.
“Let’s go.”
Oakwood Estate was closer to the cemetery than the central city.
At Julian’s insistence, Jade stayed there for one more night.
