That very same day, Jade had dragged her weakened body to drown her sketches of him in the tub and discard her wedding ring.

What was she feeling when she was forced to do all those things?

Hudson yanked his tie loose, bracing himself against a nearby wall as he gasped for air.

During these weeks, Jade had been moving houses, finding a job, and even dealing with a stalker while carrying his child…

And she had handled it all in a crushing silence, shouldering the weight of the world by herself.

In his memory, Jade had always been a delicate flower that needed constant protection from the slightest storm.

But what blindsided him was the reality that out of his sight, she was far more resilient than he ever imagined.

“Mr. Walter…” Kevin’s voice broke the silence.

Hudson stood up straight and looked at him, the corners of his eyes flushed a dangerous red, like a cornered beast in a cage.

“Speak.”

Kevin had followed Hudson for years but had never seen him in such a raw state; he took a cautious step back and tried to keep his tone clinical.

“Mr. Walter, not long ago you asked me to look into Ms. Hoyt and Lyndon Spenser. We confirmed that they were already intimately involved while Mr. Faith was still alive. Foreign media captured them several times at luxury hotels and exclusive clubs. Those reports were buried at the time, but we paid a fortune to retrieve the files and photographs.”

Hudson’s brow furrowed into a deep scowl as he extended a hand toward Kevin.

“Show me the photos.”

Kevin handed over the heavy folder.

Hudson took it, tore it open, and pulled out the images.

Some were grainy surveillance shots, others were sharp long-lens captures.

But every single one depicted a level of intimacy and heat that was unmistakable.

Yesterday Amara had claimed Lyndon had coerced her.

But these shots were taken while Ronald Faith was still very much alive.

Once could be considered coercion, but every single time after that?

And Amara said Lyndon and Ronald were mortal enemies, so why was she constantly tangled up with him in private?

If it happened while Ronald was alive, why didn’t she seek help from her own husband?

She also said Lyndon lured her to the club under the guise of revealing Ronald’s cause of death before forcing her…

Which of Amara’s words were a truth, and which were a calculated fabrication?

All of it was a dense fog of deception swirling around his heart.

His fingertips traced the edge of a photograph before he looked at Kevin with a cold, renewed focus.

“Contact Old Mr. Faith and ask for Ronald’s exact cause of death. Auditing Lyndon Spenser is a priority, and put a tail on Amara. I want to know if they meet again.”

“Understood.”

Kevin agreed, and his phone rang; he took the call, spoke briefly, and then turned back to Hudson.

“Mr. Walter, Mrs. Walter’s nurse just called. She’s awake.”

“I’m going now.”

Hudson started to move, but realizing his tie was disheveled, he fixed it in the mirror and buttoned his shirt before heading for the lift.

He couldn’t even say why he felt the need to fix his appearance.

He only knew that his image in Jade’s eyes was currently in the gutter.

He wanted to leave her with at least a slightly better impression.

Inside the ward.

Jade opened her eyes and stared blankly at the sterile white ceiling.

She was in the hospital, which meant the pregnancy was no longer a secret from Hudson.

Something she had hidden so carefully was finally out in the open.

Just as Jade was processing this, the sound of footsteps approached.

She looked over to see Hudson, his eyes dark and deep.

With a single glance, she turned her head away, positioning her back to him.

That attitude said it all-she was repulsed by him and couldn’t stand the sight of his face.

Hudson’s mouth twisted into a bitter, self-deprecating smile.

He walked to the bedside and sat down, reaching for Jade’s left hand.
