From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 124

Chapter 124 The Red Paint Attack

She tried to stop the tremors, but her body was no longer listening to her mind.

“Easy, Jade, just follow my lead,” Anthony said, his grip on her shoulders grounding her.

“Deep breaths. Just focus on me.”

His steady, gentle eyes locked onto hers, guiding her rhythmically.

Slowly, the overwhelming panic began to recede, and the violent shaking eased into a dull ache.

She slumped to the floor, burying her face in her hands.

“Anthony, why is this so impossibly hard?”

She just wanted her freedom and a shred of justice. Why was the world trying to crush her for it?

Anthony let out a heavy, sorrowful sigh.

“None of this is your fault, Jade.”

Jade broke then, letting out a raw, broken sob that Anthony didn’t interrupt, simply staying by her side in the silence.

Once she finally quieted, he handed her a tissue.

“That upload ID you asked about-I’ll have the coordinates by tonight. Don’t worry. We’ll find a way to fight backlogether

Jade wiped her eyes and stood up, her jaw set with a sudden, fierce resolve.

“They want to bury me under their lies. I won’t let them have the satisfaction.”

That afternoon.

Jade left the studio to head home, but a mob was waiting for her at the complex entrance.

She knew that engaging with them would only fuel their self-righteous fury.

She kept her head down and quickened her pace, trying to reach the lobby.

But the crowd grew more aggressive, following her and screaming insults.

Jade’s heart was pounding as she prepared to turn and confront them, when a flash of red liquid flew toward her face.

Her pupils contracted, and she lunged to the side-but a shadow moved faster, stepping directly into the path of the liquid.

The chemical stench of industrial paint filled the air as Jade looked up.

“Mr. Forster…”

It was Julian. Again.

In the span of forty-eight hours, he had saved her three times.

Every time she was in mortal danger, he was there.

It was past the point of being a coincidence.

“This isn’t the time for a discussion. We need to leave. Now.”

Julian gripped her wrist and pulled her toward the service exit at a dead run.

His security team had already neutralized the attackers, pinning them to the pavement.

A black Cullinan was idling at the rear gate. Before getting in, Julian stripped off his ruined coat and hurled it into a nearby bin.

Jade stared at the garment; the back of his expensive coat was covered in a massive, jagged smear of crimson.

She had been facing the attacker; if he hadn’t moved, that paint would have hit her eyes or disfigured her.

Julian opened the door, and seeing Jade still frozen in shock, he spoke.

“Get in the car.”

Jade snapped out of it, nodding as she slid into the leather seat. Julian followed and slammed the door, and the driver pulled away instantly.

Jade leaned against the door, her fingers nervously picking at the fabric of her skirt.

She felt a profound sense of disorientation and helplessness.

The steady, calming scent of cedar wood from Julian seemed to cloud her mind until it was blank.

The car was silent until Julian finally spoke.

“Jade, your current apartment is no longer a safe haven.”

His voice brought her drifting thoughts back to reality.

She nodded in agreement.

“I’ll find a new place tonight. Somewhere with better security.”

She was a marked woman now, and her address had obviously been leaked to the mob.

The Sycamore Road complex was too vulnerable for a woman in her position.

She’d have to hide for a few days until the legal battle turned in her favor

Fortunately, the Harbor City project had paid well enough to afford a high-end hideout.

“If you’re willing, you can stay at my residence here. It’s private, highly secure, and I can guarantee total anonymity.”

Hearing the offer, Jade bit her lip, her nails digging into her palms.
