From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 493

“You’ll be fine. Those experiments aren’t that risky. You’ve got this,” Ladd said, sounding almost casual. He pulled out his phone, sent Laurinda his favorite student’s contact, then got up and helped her gather the pile of documents from the table. With a quick nod, he headed toward her new lab, motioning for her to follow.

Laurinda trailed after him, barely able to hide her amusement. This felt almost exactly like being told to figure everything out on her own.

Once Jarred left the lab building, he pressed a hand to his aching chest and dropped onto a bench outside.

He stared up at the dull gray sky. His head throbbed with worry. Ever since the Charles family collapsed, his funding had vanished. He really didn’t see how any other family in Cabinda would be able to help out with the money.

Just as he started to feel hopeless, a woman appeared from around the corner and walked straight toward him. She glanced at his defeated expression and gave him the faintest hint of a smile.

“Jarred, want to talk for a bit?”

Jarred pulled his gaze away from the sky and looked the woman up and down. He frowned, his voice coming out sharp. “And you are?”

“I’m from the Cole family. I wanted to see if you’d be interested in a conversation. I heard you’ve been stressed over your graduate students’ projects. Not a lot of professors care for their students as much as you do.”

At first, Jarred wasn’t interested in her at all. But after hearing what she said, something in his eyes shifted. He took a good look at her, deciding she didn’t seem like a scam artist.

“Alright. Let’s find somewhere quiet to talk.”

He got up from the bench and gestured politely to her. The two of them walked side by side to the university’s front gate.

Right as they stepped outside, a shiny Bentley rolled to a smooth stop in front of them. Jarred’s smile turned a little brighter. He just knew someone would want to work with him, considering the projects he could offer. This was it.
