The next day after lunch, Laurinda was sitting by the window, soaking up the sun. The doorbell suddenly rang, pulling her out of her thoughts. She checked the time, got up, and went to answer it.
York stood outside, looking a little worse for wear. Laurinda noticed the look on his face and raised an eyebrow.
“Something happen?” she asked.
“It’s nothing major, but it’s about you. I’ve already sent FarrVector’s PR team to deal with it.”
Hearing that it was about her, Laurinda’s interest was immediately piqued. A slow, amused smile crept across her face.
York couldn’t help staring at her, slightly exasperated. He had never met anyone so eager to watch their own drama unfold. He let out a heavy sigh.
“Aggie and her brother are causing trouble again. They dragged Baily into it, saying you abused an elderly woman and stole assets from the Austin family. Now they’re demanding justice for Baily.”
He handed Laurinda his phone so she could see the posts for herself.
“I’ve tried to keep things under control online, but some people just won’t quit. They’re persistent, always trying to stir things up and push the narrative.”
Laurinda read through everything, then handed the phone back and turned to pour York a glass of water.
York watched her, puzzled by how calm she seemed. “So what’s your plan? You’re not going to do anything?”
“I’m the one who sent her there,” Laurinda said, handing him the glass. “Let the rumors keep spreading. Don’t bother trying to stop them. When I let her see Baily, I already knew how she’d react. The Charles and Gates families are lucky to have a kid like Aggie, honestly.”
She sounded half amused, half sarcastic. Then she glanced up. “Is Finn back yet?”
She started to wonder if she should stir things up a bit more. If people had too much free time, they always found new ways to make trouble.
The sound of the door opening made both her and York look up.
Adolphus and Foley came in from outside. Laurinda was surprised to see Foley here. Wasn’t he supposed to be at the hospital?
“Foley, you’re back. So, Bonnie…”
“Arrow is with Bonnie right now. I’m just here to pick up some medicine. I’ll be heading back later,” Foley said, sensing her worry.
“Bonnie’s doing really well. She should be able to leave the ICU in about a week. You don’t need to worry.”
