Lottie Grant’s simple joy was incredibly infectious.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
The butler went to answer it and returned a moment later carrying a large box.
“Ma’am, this was sent by Cassian Hart.”
The mention of his name cast a slightly awkward pall over the living room.
Lottie Grant walked over. “What is it?”
The box was beautifully wrapped, bearing the logo of a luxury brand.
“The person who delivered it said it’s a New Year’s gift for Gianna,” the butler added carefully.
Grace walked over and opened the box.
Inside was an exquisitely crafted ball-jointed doll, dressed in an elaborate court gown. It was clearly very expensive.
Beside it lay a card with Cassian’s handwriting: [For Gianna. With love, Uncle Cassian.]]
Grace looked at the doll and sighed.
Was he trying to make amends?
Seeing her dazed expression, Damien comforted her. “It’s okay. See if Gianna likes it. If she doesn’t, we can just throw it away.”
Grace nodded.
Then she started asking Lottie Grant if she had any plans to get married.
For the next few days, a warm atmosphere filled the Clarke family villa.
Ivy was brought to the villa after being discharged from the hospital.
The three women together seemed to dispel all the recent gloom.
They prepared the holiday feast together, told stories to Gianna, and gossiped.
Even old Mrs. Clarke cheerfully joined them to binge-watch a TV series.
But this peace lasted for only five days.
It was January 3rd.
