Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 265

Grace sat in Elliot's car, staring silently out the window as the city lights blurred past.

"Where do you want to go?" Elliot asked.

"To… Ivy's place, I guess."

Other than the Clarke estate, it was the only place in Jarrow City she could think of.

Ivy Dawson was her best friend from college, the only person who knew just how much she had suffered over the past five years.

Elliot didn't ask any more questions. He stepped on the gas and headed straight for a luxury apartment building downtown.

When they arrived, Elliot offered to help her upstairs.

Grace shook her head.

"I can walk."

He couldn't argue with her, so he simply supported her into the elevator and all the way to Ivy's front door.

"Grace, call me if you need anything."

Elliot also left her uncle's notebook with her.

"Thank you, Elliot."

Grace looked at the man, his eyes bloodshot with exhaustion, and felt a pang of guilt.

Elliot left.

Grace rang the doorbell.

Once, then twice.

The sound of hurried footsteps came from inside, followed by Ivy's distinctively loud voice.

"Who is it at this hour? What's the emergency?!"

The door flew open.

Ivy stood there in a silk slip nightgown, a black face mask on, and a baseball bat in her hand for self-defense.

When she saw who was at her door, the baseball bat clattered to the floor.

"Gr… Grace?"

Ivy ripped the mask off her face and stared, wide-eyed, as if she'd seen a ghost.

"What the hell happened to you?!"

Grace looked truly wretched.

She was wearing an ill-fitting nurse's uniform, her pants covered in dust, and she was so thin it looked like a gust of wind could knock her over.

Seeing her friend's familiar face, the strength Grace had been clinging to suddenly vanished.

"Ivy…"

She managed to say her name, her voice painfully hoarse.
