“It’s good you’re alright. I was really worried that Jolin might give you a hard time again,” Eugene said, his gaze warm and gentle.
“Don’t worry about it,” Sylvia replied calmly. “She’s just a kid—I’m not going to let her get under my skin.”
Eugene chuckled. “She’s about your age, but honestly, there’s just no comparison between the two of you.”
Sylvia smiled faintly. “Stop flattering me. I need to get back to the office, and you should get on with your day too. If anything comes up, just call me—no need to rush over in person.”
“I just can’t relax unless I see you myself,” Eugene said, then grinned. “Are you busy tomorrow?”
“What’s up?” Sylvia asked.
“My grandma called earlier—she misses you. She was wondering if you could come visit her.”
Thinking of the sweet old lady brought a touch of sadness to Sylvia’s eyes, but she nodded. “Sure, I’m free tomorrow.”
“I’ll pick you up at nine in the morning, then. We’ll have lunch at Grandma’s house. I’ll ask Dora to whip something up ahead of time!”
“No need for anything special. Whatever’s on hand is fine,” Sylvia said.
Eugene smiled at her. “That’s true. We’re practically family now—no point in standing on ceremony.”
Sylvia flushed, a little embarrassed. “Don’t tease. I should get going. You get back to work too!”
“Alright. Drive safe, and let me know when you get to the office,” Eugene reminded her.
Sylvia nodded, then turned and walked to her car.
As soon as she arrived at the company, she got a message from Eugene: [Did you make it?]
She replied: [I’m here.]
Eugene sent back a happy little emoji.
