Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 702

Stephen stepped away to take the call and came back muttering curses.

“What kind of people are they? They’re absolute scum. How could anyone do something so despicable? It’s a crime! A felony!”

Seeing Stephen so indignant, Lillian quickly asked, “What is it, Stephen? What happened?”

“It’s about the antique jewelry. They’ve found who did it. You try to guard against thieves day and night, but it’s the thief in your own house you can’t defend against. What’s even harder to stop is when they’re colluding with outsiders. An inside job with external help is nearly impossible to prevent.”

Lillian understood at once. “They found the person? So you’re saying someone from the Midvale estate was the inside man, stealing things to be sold at auction?”

Stephen nodded. “Exactly! And Lillian, take a guess. You might not know the thief at home, but who do you think the thief on the outside is?”

Lillian’s mind raced, and her brow furrowed slightly. “Don’t tell me this has something to do with the Mercer family again.”

Stephen was still fuming. “You guessed it. They’re absolutely shameless. Are they that desperate for money? Have they really resorted to stealing?”

Lillian let out a sarcastic laugh. “Perhaps they don’t even see it as stealing. They probably just think they’re taking back what they deserve. Especially Brandon and Colin actually think being Mom’s sons and the family’s grandsons gives them a birthright to those assets. They believe they’re entitled to a share of those assets. So, in their minds, it’s not theft!”

“He has some nerve. The esteemed CEO of the Mercer Group, colluding with people from his own grandparents’ estate to steal and sell exhibits. It’s a good thing you discovered it. Otherwise, once those items were scattered, would we ever have gotten them back?”

Listening from the side, Leonard understood. This was something Brandon and his brother had done in concert with someone from the Lancaster family.
