Lillian saw Sebastian’s message the moment she woke up.
She frowned.
Unfit to be a mother?
She was unfit?
She had risked her life to give birth to their son. For the past few years, she had raised him with her own hands. When he got sick, she was the one who stayed by his side, sleeplessly caring for him day and night.
It was safe to say that without her, Noah wouldn’t have even made it this far; he might have died long ago.
And now, Sebastian had the audacity to say she was unfit to be a mother?
If she was an unfit mother, did that make him a fit father?
Didn't he realize that he was the most unfit parent of all?
Lillian stared at the message for a full minute, her anger simmering. Then, she dialed Sebastian's number.
Sebastian answered immediately upon seeing her call.
“Lillian, I’ve already told you how to save Noah. For our son's sake, whether you want to or not, you have to have a second child.”
Sebastian tried to seize control of the conversation, but Lillian just let out a cold laugh. “Heh... Sebastian, the one thing you can’t force me to do is have another baby. Let me tell you again: a second child is not an option. There's advanced technology overseas that can use our DNA to synthesize a treatment for Noah. If you want to save your son, you can give it a try. If you don't, fine. Noah is the Blake family heir, and he’s already said he doesn’t want me as his mother anymore. I can grant him his wish and sever our parental ties at any time. After all, the doctors said he can't be saved, so he's going to die anyway. What’s the point in me having a son who’s doomed to die? Sebastian, you figure it out. Don’t even think about a second child. Just sign the divorce papers as soon as possible. Looking at you for one more second makes me sick.”
A man who had always looked down on her, whose heart had long since strayed—Lillian felt she must have been blind back then. She regretted it all. If she had known it would come to this, she never would have gotten involved with him. She had wasted the most precious years of her life. Otherwise, she might have already achieved her dream by now.
Lillian hung up and walked into her study. She saw that her computer was still on, the algorithm update she had run overnight now complete. The program she and Victor had written was ready for its first operational run, though the algorithm wasn't powerful enough yet. She needed to update it before they could fully launch.
Her previous algorithm update had already caused a stir at Litech NaLabs.
This time, when Lillian updated it again, it was Litech NaLabs who noticed it first, as Lillian's own company had not yet begun to use the algorithm officially.
Leonard knocked on Lillian’s bedroom door. When she opened it, she was greeted by his smiling face.
“Lillian, did you stay up all night updating the algorithm?”
Despite his smile, Lillian detected an accusatory tone, as if he were about to settle a score.
