Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 241

Riverton City, Riverside Millford.

It had been half a month since Emma returned to Averton City, and she made sure to call home three times a week like clockwork.

On the phone, she always insisted she was fine, that she had recovered well from the surgery, and that she had hired professional help so they wouldn't have to worry.

But even though her daughter said all the right things to reassure them, Karen Hayes somehow felt more anxious than ever.

She knew her own daughter. Emma had always been the type to share good news and hide the bad. She had been sensible and well-behaved since she was a child, so the more she insisted she was doing well, the more Karen worried.

"Oh, come on, Mom! Sis said she's fine, what are you still fussing about?" Eric Hayes grumbled between bites of ribs at the dinner table.

As far as he was concerned, even though his sister and brother-in-law were divorced, his ex-brother-in-law was worth hundreds of millions. Even after the split, his sister was living a life of luxury most people could only dream of.

So when his sister told their mom on the phone that she had hired help and was recovering well from her surgery, Eric truly wasn't worried.

"Hmph, you ungrateful brat! Your sister has always been so good to you, and you can't even be bothered to worry about her?!" Karen snapped.

Eric's attempt to soothe her had backfired, igniting a fire in Karen. "She's all alone in that huge city with no one to confide in, and she just had a procedure after her miscarriage. You don't even think to worry about her, you just sit here making callous remarks!"

Furious, Karen put down her utensils and glared at her son as if she wanted to slap him.

"Alright, alright," Robert Hayes interjected, trying to smooth things over. "So what do you want to do? The girl says she's fine, but you're still worried. Worrying here at home isn't going to help anything, is it?"
