Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 24

She picked up the spoon, scooping some porridge and bringing it to her lips.

The savory pork blended perfectly with the creamy rice. Even though Evan hadn’t cooked in years, his skills were still as good as they used to be.

“How is it? Does it taste okay?”

Evan sat across from Emma, watching her intently.

He leaned forward slightly, his eyes fixed on her every move as she ate, as if desperate to see a positive reaction on her face.

Noticing a rare hint of nervousness in his expression, Emma paused, then a small smile touched her lips as she nodded. “It’s delicious. You should have some, too.”

Relieved by her answer, Evan finally relaxed and ladled a bowl of porridge for himself.

He didn't bother with a spoon, lifting the bowl directly to his lips and taking a gulp. He drank too fast, and the hot porridge nearly scalded his throat.

“Ahem! Cough, cough…”

Seeing him choking, Emma quickly handed him a napkin and frowned. “Slow down. No one’s going to steal it from you.”

Her tone wasn't gentle at all; it was almost scolding.

But Evan was thrilled to hear it. He grinned foolishly and nodded at her.

His hair was messy, and he was wearing a simple grey sweatsuit, giving him a relaxed and comfortable air. Without his usual suit, he lost that serious, indifferent aura, making him seem much younger and brighter, like a well-behaved Samoyed puppy.

Emma found herself staring. Seeing him like this inevitably made her think of the past.
