On Monday morning, as soon as Evan arrived at the company and entered his office, he saw the asset division agreement lying on his desk.
He picked up the phone to dial an extension. Not three minutes later, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
Without looking up, Evan asked bluntly, “What’s this about?”
Jason Walsh entered timidly from outside, feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Seeing the agreement on his boss’s desk, Jason explained very carefully, “Mr. Cooper, this arrived this morning from Hale & Associates. It must be from Mrs. Cooper…”
He stopped mid-sentence, realizing his mistake, and quickly corrected himself. “I mean, it must have been sent on behalf of Ms. Hayes.”
Evan’s expression remained unchanged. He picked up the agreement, his long fingers flipping it open. After a brief glance, he tossed it back onto the desk and said coldly, “If she has something to say, tell her to contact me directly.”
“Yes, of course. I’ll take care of it right away.”
The poor working stiff Jason retreated nervously. He had a mountain of his own work to deal with, but he had to handle his boss's personal affairs first.
When Emma received the call and saw Jason’s name on the screen, she hesitated for only a moment before answering.
“Hello, Jason. What’s up?”
