Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 147

Evan’s fear began to subside upon hearing Mrs. Alvarez’s words.

He thought, *it doesn’t matter. Even if Emma is dead set on divorcing me, as long as we have the baby, we’ll never truly be apart. We’ll be bound together for life.*

With that thought, he stood up again and gave Mrs. Alvarez a gentle smile.

“Thank you, Mrs. Alvarez. We’ll be heading back soon, so you can take a vacation and rest at home for a while. Your salary will be paid as usual.”

“Oh... oh, thank you, Mr. Cooper.”

Mrs. Alvarez was a bit bewildered. The master had come downstairs looking gloomy and dejected, but after she said that, his demeanor had completely changed, as if he were a different person. She found it strange but couldn’t quite put her finger on what was wrong.

At dinnertime, Emma opened her bedroom door and came downstairs.

She was surprised to see the man sitting on the sofa. She had assumed he would have left after their earlier confrontation, but it seemed not...

“Are you hungry?”

Hearing her, Evan put down his newspaper, stood up, and smiled at her.

His expression was natural, his smile gentle, as if he weren’t the same man who had been stone-faced while discussing the division of assets with her in the room just a while ago.

After all these years with Evan, Emma knew his temperament well.

With her, he was never one to hide his emotions. On the contrary, any displeasure or unhappiness was written all over his face, and he had quite a temper.

So, seeing this sudden change in him, Emma furrowed her brows slightly. She was puzzled but didn’t say anything, merely nodding before heading straight to the kitchen.

Mrs. Alvarez was preparing ingredients. A soup was simmering in a clay pot—it was that soup again.
