After Nathan finished speaking, he noticed the girl was still sitting there with her head down, showing no intention of leaving. He frowned and said coldly, “Is there anything else?”
“Oh! No, no, nothing at all!”
Snapping back to reality, Melissa immediately shot up from her seat, waving her hands in a flustered panic. Her face instantly turned beet red.
Watching the girl flee, Nathan’s frown deepened. He felt certain he had seen her somewhere before but couldn’t quite place it.
Sandra knocked and entered.
“Dr. Allen! Here are Emma’s latest test results. And this is the blood work for Thomas Carter, transferred down from the 21st floor. Could you take a look?”
As Nathan took the reports, in a flash of insight, he suddenly remembered where he had seen Melissa before.

At the dinner table, Emma was taking small bites of the steamed egg custard Mrs. Alvarez had made.
Her stomach was churning, so she ate with extreme care, taking tiny bites to avoid throwing up and making Evan suspicious.
“Have you packed for the trip back to Riverside Millford?”
Evan glanced at her before picking up some seafood. He scooped up a spoonful and blew on it gently.
Emma kept her eyes on the custard in her bowl, not planning to respond.
Seeing this, Evan didn’t seem to mind. He looked away and said casually, “Don’t worry about the gifts for the trip back. I’ve already had Jason prepare everything for your parents and your brother. And I’ve gotten a few things for your mother’s side of the family as well...”
Evan spoke naturally, referring to Emma’s relatives as his own.
