“What? You’re going back to Riverside Millford?!”
Daniel’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped when he heard Evan was leaving the company for a while to return to Riverside Millford. He looked as if the world was ending.
Good heavens, this was a once-in-a-millennium event.
Evan, the workaholic, was actually taking a vacation to go back to his hometown for the holidays.
Listen to this, just listen. Was that something a sane person would say?
Daniel ran a hand through his hair, looking both confused and completely overwhelmed.
“Dude! Aren’t you two in the middle of a divorce? Weren’t you just... and now today you’re going back to Riverside Millford together? How did Emma suddenly come around and decide to get back together with a jerk like you?”
“Not today, we’re leaving tomorrow. And she hasn’t come around. She hasn’t agreed to go back with me yet.”
Evan explained calmly, still signing the contract in his hand with a pen.
“Then why did you have Jason book the tickets? She hasn’t even agreed!” Daniel didn’t get it.
“It’s fine. She’ll agree.”
“Oh, you know everything, don’t you? Let me tell you, Evan, you’ve always had this blind confidence, this absolute certainty. A young man like you can’t be like that!”
Daniel clapped his friend on the shoulder with an air of mock seriousness.
Uncharacteristically, Evan didn’t say anything more, just smiled and shook his head.
He wouldn’t be so certain about other things, but when it came to going back to Riverside Millford, he didn’t even have to think about it. He knew Emma would definitely go. She had deeper, stronger feelings for that place than he did.
Besides, her family was there.
