"Hey, are you here by yourself too?"
A voice asked from beside her.
Emma turned to see a stylish girl with short hair who looked to be around twenty-five. She wore bold, eye-catching makeup, and even though it was freezing outside, she was only wearing a brown leather jacket.
Emma nodded and gave the girl a polite smile. "Yes, I am."
"Oh, what a coincidence! Me too!"
The girl introduced herself as Lily. She pulled two chocolate cookies and two cartons of milk from her bag, pushing one set into Emma's hands.
"Want some? It's going to be a long wait. I wanted to bring chips, but my husband messed up packing my snacks. I told him chips, chips, and he gives me chocolate cookies..."
Lily chattered on as she rummaged through her bag.
Emma looked at the milk and cookies already in her hands and felt she couldn't refuse. She just smiled and said, "Thank you."
"Don't mention it. I've got plenty of snacks in here anyway. Every time I go out, my husband packs a ton of stuff for me. It's so heavy!"
Lily tore open the cookie wrapper and took a small bite, sending crumbs falling onto her leather shorts.
Emma didn't know if it was because she was getting older or because of her illness, but she felt the cold much more these days. Looking at Lily's outfit, she couldn't help but feel cold for her.
"So, how far along are you?" Lily asked, taking a sip of milk and looking at Emma.
"Um... I think about two months? I'm not actually sure yet," Emma said with a small smile, subconsciously glancing down at her stomach.
The thought that a tiny life was quietly growing inside her filled her with a strange sense of happiness.
