"What do you get out of doing all this?"
Simon didn't hesitate to bare his soul.
"I like you."
Maeve looked at him like he had just told a bad joke.
"But I have zero interest in you."
"Is it because of Andres?" Simon asked.
"It doesn't matter who it is," she replied flatly.
Simon raised a hand to block her path.
"My sister is coming back."
Maeve raised an eyebrow.
"And that's my problem because...?"
Simon's expression grew serious.
"Half of Aethelburg knows that my sister and Andres used to be deeply in love."
Maeve's face remained impassive.
"Again, why is that my problem?"
Simon was entirely defeated by her rock-solid composure.
"No woman can tolerate her man keeping another woman in his heart."
"They were forced apart back then, and my sister was the one who initiated the breakup."
"If she returns to Aethelburg and wants to rekindle things with Andres, what do you think will happen between them?"
Maeve thought about it very seriously for a moment.
"Domestic violence, probably."
Simon couldn't process that for a second.
Domestic violence?
Who was getting hit?
Andres?
Maeve patiently clarified,
"If my man dares to get tangled up with another woman right in front of my face..."
"There's only one outcome: I'll beat the hell out of him."
Right in front of Simon, Maeve casually kicked a small pebble.
