Naomi was about to cut her off, but Maeve silenced her with a sharp glare.
"Back off, guys. I'm not a child, so stop trying to manage me. You brought me out to drink. If I don't leave here properly buzzed, I'm not leaving at all."
Jasper leaned in and murmured near Naomi's ear, "Let her go. She just needs to blow off some steam."
Maeve's sharp gaze snapped to Jasper.
"Don't think I can't hear you just because you're whispering. My hearing is excellent."
Jasper fought back a smile. "Alright, alright. Drink up. Have as much as you want."
He covertly signaled the bartender with a look, silently ordering him to keep the alcohol content low so she wouldn't actually get trashed.
The bartender offered a knowing smile. Following the flavor profile Maeve seemed to prefer, he mixed her a creamy Brandy Alexander.
Naomi decided to update them on the drama.
"Speaking of the Ashford family, Bowen called me a few days ago begging for a favor. He actually promised that if I helped his family survive this crisis, he would dump Sienna Lowell and marry me instead."
Maeve and Jasper both burst out laughing.
"Did you agree?" Jasper asked, amused.
Naomi shot him a withering look. "Do I look like I have brain damage? Obviously not. I hung up on him before he even finished his sentence and blocked his number."
"Later, my mom mentioned that the Ashford family's business is imploding. They even begged my dad for a massive loan to keep them afloat, using our families' long history to guilt-trip him. My dad shot them down instantly."
"My dad told them that since Bowen chose Sienna even after knowing I was the true daughter of the Lowell family, any ties between our two families were completely severed."
